🐾 MYLO’S FRIDAY FUND 🐾
❤️❤️ PLEASE DONATE ❤️❤️

💵 $5 FRIDAY — VET CARE FRIDAY ❤️

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for $5 Friday at Mylo!

The second Friday of the month is VET CARE FRIDAY — a day to help us tackle one of the biggest ongoing expenses in rescue.

Every dog who comes through Mylo needs basic veterinary care — vaccines, testing, preventatives, spay/neuter and sometimes medications or unexpected treatment.

But rescue doesn’t always end quickly.

Some of our dogs are long-term Mylo dogs who, for one reason or another, haven’t found their forever homes yet. While they wait, they remain our responsibility — and so does their ongoing veterinary care, medications, preventatives and other medical needs.

Those expenses continue month after month.

That’s why today we’re asking for just $5.

Five dollars may not sound like much, but when a community comes together, those $5 donations can turn into vaccines, medications, preventatives and veterinary care for dogs who depend on us.

❤️ A lot of people doing a little can accomplish something BIG.

If you can give more, we’re incredibly grateful.
If you can give $5, your $5 matters.
And if donating isn’t possible today, sharing this post helps too.

🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾

🚀🐾 A little common sense can make a BIG difference in a dog’s life.

This week’s It’s Not Rocket Science is about something we hear all the time — “My dog has too much energy!”

Before giving up on the dog, try giving that energy somewhere to go. ❤️👇

🚀🐾 IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE: “MY DOG HAS TOO MUCH ENERGY!”

We hear it all the time.

“My dog is too hyper.”
“He won’t settle down.”
“He’s driving me crazy.”
“He’s tearing things up.”

Before deciding there’s something wrong with the dog, ask yourself one question:

What did your dog actually DO today?

🐾 Did he go for a walk?

🎾 Did anyone play with him? Even sitting down and tossing a ball or toy lets HIM do the running!

🧩 Did he get a puzzle, stuffed toy, snuffle mat or treat-finding game? Working their brain can wear dogs out, too!

👃 Did he get a chance to sniff and explore?

🧠 Did anyone spend a few minutes practicing simple commands with him?

❤️ Did he get real interaction with his people?

A backyard doesn’t automatically equal exercise.

Opening the door and saying “go outside” isn’t the same as play, enrichment, exploring or spending time together.

Dogs get bored. And bored dogs find their own entertainment.

Sometimes that entertainment is your couch.
Or your shoes.
Or your trash can.
Or apparently remodeling a wall you never asked them to remodel. 😂

Before you label your dog “too hyper,” “destructive,” or “out of control,” try giving some of that energy somewhere GOOD to go.

Walk them. Toss a ball. Give them a puzzle. Let them sniff. Work their brain. Spend time with them.

You don’t have to run a marathon with your dog.

Sometimes you just have to give them something to DO.

🚀 It’s not rocket science. It’s dog ownership.

The answer to our homeless animal crisis isn’t going to come from one shelter, one rescue, or one person. It’s going to take a community of people each willing to do something.

Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Donate. Share. Help a stray get home.

You don’t have to do it all. Just find the part you can do. 🐾

🐾 EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETHING. 🐾
📍 Milton, Florida • Gulf Coast

Our shelters are full. Stray dogs are still out there. And more and more, our community is going to have to be part of the solution.

The good news? You don’t have to save them all.

❤️ If you can ADOPT — adopt.

🏡 If you can’t adopt, FOSTER.

💵 If you can’t foster, DONATE.

🙋‍♀️ If you can’t donate, VOLUNTEER.

📲 If you can’t volunteer, SHARE.

❤️ Ready to ADOPT or FOSTER? Apply here:

🐾 Want to learn more ways to get involved?

And if you find a stray, don’t immediately assume someone else is coming to take over. Give them some water. Keep them safe if you can. Post them. Check for a microchip. Ask your neighbors. Help them find their way home.

Everyone can do something.

One person may not be able to change everything for homeless dogs in our community — but every person can change something.

🐾 What will your something be?

🐾 THE SHELTER CAN’T SAVE THEM ALL — THE NEXT LIFE SAVED MAY DEPEND ON YOU 🐾

— A Message From the Director of The Mylo Foundation

I want to talk about something happening in our community which affects every person who cares about animals.

‼️Our shelters are full.

We are reaching a point where shelters simply cannot continue accepting every owner surrender or every stray animal brought to their doors.

And I want to be very clear about something:

👉 This is not a shelter problem.
👉 This is a community problem.

For years, we have treated the shelter as the place where the problem goes.

🐾 Found a dog? Take it to the shelter.
🐾 Can’t keep your pet? Take it to the shelter.
🐾 Had an accidental litter? Call the shelter.
🐾 Moving? Call the shelter.
🐾 Your untrained Dog has behavioral problems? Someone else will figure it out.

But what happens when there is nowhere left for them to go?

Shelters cannot create space out of thin air. Rescues cannot keep taking animals when every foster home is full, every kennel is occupied, and resources are stretched beyond their limits.

The shelter was never meant to be the solution to animal homelessness.

👉 YOU ARE.

The solution is a community willing to take responsibility for the animals who live here.

❤️ It means spaying and neutering our pets.

❤️ It means making a plan for our animals before we move, before life changes, and before a crisis happens.

❤️ It means working through challenges instead of immediately giving up a pet.

❤️ It means helping a stray get home before assuming leaving them on the street or dumping them at the shelter is the only option.

❤️ It means fostering when you have room.

❤️🐾❤️ It means adopting.

❤️ It means helping a neighbor keep their pet when one bag of food, a crate, a ride to the vet, or a little guidance could make the difference.

❤️ And it means understanding you don’t have to run a rescue to save an animal.

Sometimes being part of the solution means helping one.

👉 One dog. One cat. One family. One time.

As the Director of The Mylo Foundation, I am asking our community to change the question.

Instead of asking:

“Who can I call to take this animal?”

Start asking:

“What can I do to help solve this?”

Our shelters need us.
Our rescues need us.
But most importantly, the animals need us.

We cannot keep waiting for someone else to fix a problem which belongs to all of us.

The community is the solution. And every one of us can be part of it.

Look beyond today. You might find tomorrow’s best friend 😊❤️🐾

Look beyond today. You might find tomorrow’s best friend 😊❤️🐾

🐾 YOU SAID YOU WANTED A RESCUE DOG. 🐾

Recently, someone came to meet one of our dogs.

They told us what they were looking for, and we introduced them to a dog we genuinely thought could be a wonderful match.

The dog was sweet. Gentle. Quiet.

And a little shy.

That was enough for him to be described as “too much of a project.”

And it got us thinking.

What exactly do we expect when we say we want to rescue a dog?

Because rescue dogs don’t always walk into a meet-and-greet with their tail wagging, ready to climb into a stranger’s lap.

Some hang back.

Some are nervous.

Some need a few visits before they decide you’re safe.

Some have lost their homes, their people, their routines—sometimes everything they knew—and they’re trying to figure out what happens next.

That doesn’t make them a project.

It makes them a dog who needs a little patience.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with knowing what kind of dog is right for your family. Not every dog is the right fit for every home, and we WANT adopters to choose wisely.

But somewhere along the way, we have to stop expecting rescue dogs to prove themselves to us in 15 minutes.

Sometimes the dog who doesn’t immediately run into your arms is the dog who, six months from now, won’t leave your side.

Sometimes the dog sitting quietly in the corner is watching you, wondering whether you’re going to be another person who walks away.

And sometimes the very best relationships aren’t instant.

They’re earned.

So when you meet a rescue dog, don’t just ask:

“Is this dog perfect for me today?”

Ask:

“Who could this dog become if someone finally gave them the time to feel safe?”

Because rescue isn’t always about finding the easiest dog.

Sometimes it’s about seeing the dog standing right in front of you and recognizing that a little patience isn’t a project.

It’s part of the rescue. ❤️🐾
