Who would have thought getting almost bitten in the face would make me this happy? 😆🐍
If you’ve ever met Sephora at a program, you know she’s always been… complicated when it comes to food.
Sephora is around 10 years old, but due to her rough start in life, she’s only about the size of a 2-year-old snake. Since the day I got her, getting her to eat consistently has been a challenge. Every meal has involved crossing my fingers, trying different approaches, and hoping she’d decide food was worth the effort.
Apparently, I finally found the secret sauce.
She’s eaten 3x in the last 5 weeks! Normally I’m lucky if she eats 6 times a year!
Today, when I opened her enclosure to feed her, she launched into full “WHERE’S MY DINNER?!” mode and came within about two inches of biting me in the face. 🤦♀️😂
Normally, a snake trying to tag your face would be a bad thing.
But for Sephora? A feeding response this strong is something I’ve dreamed of seeing for years.
So yes… today I celebrated almost getting bitten in the face by a boa. 🐍❤️
Sometimes progress doesn’t look like a picture-perfect moment.
Sometimes it looks like ducking out of the way while shouting, “THAT’S MY GIRL!”

Fun fact: Snakes that have struggled to eat can suddenly “flip a switch” once husbandry, confidence, health, or routine finally clicks into place. After years of worrying over every meal, seeing Sephora this enthusiastic is honestly one of the best signs I could ask for. 🥹💕
