As many of you know, I work in veterinary emergency and critical care and have spent years supporting animals and their people in high-stress situations. I care deeply about helping — and I’ve learned that doing so sustainably requires clear boundaries.

Going forward, I’m offering veterinary technician consults for those seeking guidance on:

| General care & husbandry

| Behavior and safety support

| Post-procedure or recovery care

| Fear Free handling strategies

| Triage guidance (when to monitor vs. seek urgent care)

| Navigating veterinary recommendations

These consults are educational and supportive in nature and do not include diagnosing, prescribing, or replacing a veterinarian.

Because this is professional time and expertise, consults are offered by appointment and fee-based.

Today is National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day, which is a good reminder that chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats. Chocolate contains methylxanthines, including theobromine and caffeine, which pets cannot properly metabolize.

Many of the chocolate ingestion cases I’ve helped manage also involved additional toxic ingredients, such as raisins and certain nuts. Raisins are toxic to pets, as are macadamia nuts, which can cause serious neurologic and musculoskeletal effects.

This is why, when you contact your veterinarian about a potential ingestion, you are often advised to reach out to Pet Poison Control. These services are staffed by board-certified veterinary toxicologists and supported by extensive databases covering foods, medications, plants, and chemicals that may be harmful to pets. They help guide treatment decisions, determine the level of risk, and advise whether your pet needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately or can be safely monitored at home.

I’m incredibly grateful for the trust people place in me when it comes to animal care. Supporting pets and the people who love them has been my life’s work for many years, and I don’t take that lightly.

As my professional responsibilities and family obligations have grown, I need to be more intentional about how I share my expertise. Moving forward, detailed questions, recommendations, care planning, and ongoing advice outside of my formal roles will be offered as paid consultations.

This includes (but is not limited to):
