⭐️⭐️FETRP ADOPTION PSA⭐️⭐️
Thank you for everyone who is interested in adopting an OTTB from our nonprofit organization. This work is incredibly important to myself and our team, and we hope to continue to expand our organization to serve more OTTBs with the support of our wonderful equine community.
As our available horses received an unbelievable amount of interest, we want to share a quick reminder about our adoption process and why these policies are important.
⭐️ADOPTION APPLICATIONS⭐️
An approved adoption application must be on file before scheduling a viewing or adopting a horse.
There is no application fee, and approved applications remain on file for one year.
Our application process isn’t about finding a “perfect” adopter. It helps our team learn about your experience, goals, riding plans, horse-care arrangements, veterinary/farrier resources, and the type of horse that may be the best fit for you.
Most importantly, it allows us to focus on making thoughtful, appropriate matches between horses and adopters rather than simply placing a horse with the first interested person.

⭐️HOLDS & ADOPTION AVAILABILITY⭐️
FETRP does not place general holds or guarantees on available horses.
A horse remains available for adoption until an adoption agreement has been signed and the adoption fee has been paid. Payment is due at the time the agreement is signed.
We understand that deciding to adopt a horse is a big decision. However, holding a horse for an interested adopter can mean turning away another qualified home—only for circumstances to change and the original adoption not to move forward.
Every additional week a horse remains in our care also requires continued funding, feed, training, veterinary/farrier care, and potentially delays our ability to help another Thoroughbred in need. For a small aftercare program, those resources matter tremendously.
⭐️PRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATIONS⭐️
The one exception is a Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE).
Once an adopter has a PPE scheduled and confirmed, FETRP may place the horse on a temporary PPE hold for up to five days to allow the examination to take place.
Once the PPE is completed, the hold ends and the horse becomes available for adoption again unless the adopter moves forward with signing the adoption agreement and submitting payment.
Our goal is never to create pressure or competition. These policies simply allow us to be fair and consistent with every applicant while keeping the needs of our horses and our mission at the center of every adoption.
Thank you for understanding and for supporting responsible Thoroughbred aftercare.
Warmly,
Autumn Fiordland
