I feel a bit discouraged and brokenhearted for the older dogs we are fostering. I have a house full of wonderful, sweet pugs, yet it has been months since anyone got adopted and we haven’t seen a single inquiry on them either.

Today I would like to highlight Jenny. She has been with us for 171 days. She came from neglect and suspected abuse. Her pelvis was broken as was her femur though that fused back together albeit incorrectly. Her intestines were outside her abdominal cavity in a massive hernia. Her digestive tract was full of rocks which she had eaten to quiet hunger.

We fixed all we could fix and are left with a happy, active dog that still runs around with joy with only a minor limp. Jenny is 10, she loves toys, kids and has been a good friend to every dog in my home. She is kennel and potty trained, sits on command and knows to wait for her food.

I hope that Jenny doesn’t hit 200 days in foster care because she honestly deserved to be adopted a long time ago for all she’s been through.

As the holidays approach I hope that perhaps people may consider giving the gift of permanency to one of these fantastic seniors and I jopw that perhaps Jenny would be so lucky to be one of them.

I don't think we talk enough about how much our dogs do for our mental health.
The days we didn't want to get out of bed, but they need feeding. The days we didn't want to face the world, but they needed our attention. The moments we felt completely alone, but there was a little heartbeat beside us reminding us that we weren't. They keep us warm.
Not just on the outside but on the inside too.
Sometimes looking after them was the only way we knew how to look after ourselves. I can say with my whole heart that I wouldn't be here today without my dogs.
They'll never understand just how many times they saved us, simply by needing us.
