Hi friends,
We are opening at 11am tomorrow, as our family will be saying goodbye to our beloved 18 year old cat, June, in the morning. Our staff is stepping in to cover for us and give us the time and space to say goodbye to her, but to accommodate that we need to open an hour late. We apologize for the inconvenience.
June is the first "baby" Adam I had together - before her the pets were "his and hers." But in October of 2008, we were asked to be an emergency foster home for this tiny gray and white kitten. She and her sister were feral kittens who were trapped, fixed and ear tipped, but were social enough to be adopted. Unfortunately, both girls also had distemper and worms, and their bodies were shutting down. Her sister sadly didn't survive, but somehow June did. I felt like it was almost like having a baby, feeding her kitten milk replacer slurries every two hours all night long. And each time I left her I would tell her I loved her in case she didn't survive till the next feeding. But she did. She survived and thrived, and after all of that, we just couldn't let her go. Did we need five cats? No. But we needed her.
In the nearly 18 years since she has been our constant companion, a champion snuggler, and in particular our son's best girl. Out hearts are broken, but we know it is her time.
Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this sad time.
