Mithril went back to work today after nearly two years off. In 2024 I gave her most of the summer off after she received a bad cut on her hind leg. I rode her once that fall to make sure she still felt sound to ride before I let her have the winter off. The following spring, I decided I would try to breed her. So she spent some time with a stallion and I spent the next year waiting on a baby that never came. I thought she could go back to work if she’s not going to have a baby, so I slapped a set of shoes on her the other day and hopped on for a couple minutes to make sure she was still broke. She is still very broke and still every bit the EXACT same horse she was like I just got off of her yesterday. Today we gathered our little group of cows to get them worked before the fall run kicks in to gear. She gathered with every bit of pep in her step that she always has and sorted what needed sorting like she knew exactly what we set out to do today. I just love this mare. We absolutely hum at the same frequency and I don’t think I have ever managed to swing a leg over her without a smile coming to my face. She is an inspiration to me. She fuels me when I need it and yet still has the patience to do every job with such a controlled ease and the athletic ability that is hard to find. I can’t say enough good about her. Really hoping for a baby out of her in the next few years!
