Post a $15,000 horse and suddenly everybodyās phone battery is in danger. š²š„
āIs he still available?ā
āCan you send 47 videos?ā
āDoes he neck rein?ā
āCan my 8-year-old ride him?ā
āCan he sort cows, drag a log, trail ride alone, babysit Grandma, and probably do my taxes?ā

Apparently everyoneās Wi-Fi goes out. š
And then we get the messages from people with a $4,000ā$6,000 budget who want the $15,000 horse.
They don't want the cheaper horse because:
āHe doesnāt neck rein.ā
āHeās a little pokey.ā
āHe has some arthritis.ā
āHe has an old scar.ā
āHe isnāt fancy enough.ā
āHe needs more training.ā
āHeās older.ā
āHe has a quirk.ā
MY FRIENDā¦ YOU HAVE A $5,000 BUDGET. NOT A $15,000 BUDGET THAT YOUāRE TRYING TO MANIFEST. š
Hereās the uncomfortable truth:
GOOD HORSES ARENāT CHEAP.
CHEAP HORSES ARENāT NECESSARILY BAD.
BUT CHEAP HORSES ARE RARELY PERFECT.
And there is a HUGE difference between a cheap horse and a bad horse.
A $5,000 horse might be a perfectly good horse that simply isn't finished like a $15,000 horse.
Maybe he doesn't neck rein.
Maybe he's more āWhoaā than āGo.ā
Maybe she's 18 instead of 8.
Maybe she has some arthritis.
Maybe he has an old scar.
Maybe she needs another 30 rides.
Maybe he isn't going to win the World Championship, but he'll pack your kids around the trail all day and stand tied to the trailer without turning into a rodeo. š
THAT'S CALLED REALITY.
The horse doesn't care what you wish your budget was.
The seller doesn't control the laws of economics.
And Facebook Marketplace is not the Make-A-Wish Foundation for horses. š
If you have $5,000 to spend, that's GREAT.
There are good horses in that price range.
But you need to decide what you're willing to compromise on.
Want a finished, fancy, young, sound, experienced, neck-reining, bombproof, push-button horse with no blemishes, no arthritis, no quirks and 15 years of experience?
You're probably going to need to move the decimal point. š°š
Want to stay under $5,000?
Then maybe your expectations need to come down from āfuture world championā to āhonest horse that will get the job done.ā
And honestly?
Some of the best horses we've ever been around weren't the prettiest, fanciest, most expensive horses.
They were the ones that were HONEST.
So know your budget.
Know what you're actually looking for.
Know what you're willing to overlook.
And quit expecting a $5,000 horse to come with a $20,000 rĆ©sumĆ©. š
Because if you want the $20,000 horseā¦
Bring $20,000. š¤·āāļøš“
The horse market isn't broken.
Your expectations and your wallet just need to have a meeting. š
