Mrs. Backer was a delight when we worked for her, whether selling her mare Divine Dixie for $2 million at FTK, or visiting Franklin Smith’s barns during the Elloree trials.

She was so modest I never knew how much she accomplished in the rest of her days.

Franklin Smith, brother of trainer Hamilton Smith and who operated the Elloree Training Center, passed away August 1.
