On June 3, 2026, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) received confirmation of a detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in Zavala County, Texas. The best thing that livestock producers and animal owners can do to prevent infestation is to put eyes on their animals as often as possible, remain vigilant by implementing enhanced management practices to avoid creating wounds, and promptly report suspicious wounds.

Did you know the month of May is Mental Health Awareness month? Well now you do💚🐾

🐾1 in 4 people are diagnosed with a mental illness each year.
🐾 1 in 20 veterinarians experience severe psychological distress with higher rates in ages 18-34.
🐾 Veterinary professionals experience significantly higher rates of mental health struggles. They have a su***de rate that is 3.5 times higher than the general population.
🐾 Up to 50% of veterinarians with mental illness do no seek help
🐾 Roughly 37% of Vets have burnout in their career. Vet Techs have a 31% burnout in their career.

Help us end the stigma when it comes to Mental Health. Learn the signs, educate yourself with support/ mental health therapies and most importantly check on your people 💚

🚨 It's Coyote Mating Season 🚨

January through March is coyote mating season, which means increased activity in both, rural and urban areas!
During this time, coyotes are more active and may be seen more frequently, even during daylight hours.☀️
Coyotes are typically shy and avoid humans, BUT it’s important to take precautions to keep your pets safe.

Here are some tips to minimize encounters:

🐾 Keep pets on a leash: Always supervise pets and use a short leash, especially near parks or wooded spaces.

🗑️ Secure food sources: Don’t leave pet food, garbage, or birdseed outside, as these attract coyotes.

🚪 Check your yard: Before letting pets outside, make sure your yard is secure and clear of coyotes.

🍽️ Do NOT feed coyotes: Feeding wildlife encourages bold behavior and increases encounters.

👀 Stay alert: If you see a coyote, make yourself big, loud, and back away slowly— never run.

⚠️ Stay vigilant, stay safe! 🐾
