As summer comes to an end, you may have seen these familiar faces around the clinic!
They have been busy learning, growing and getting some hands-on experience with us but now its time for each of them to head back to school and continue their journeys toward veterinary medicine. We're so proud of them and can't wait to see what the future holds.

βœˆοΈπŸ–οΈ Travel season is hereβ€”and that means many dogs are spending time at daycare, boarding facilities, or play groups while their families are away.

Just like kids heading back to school, dogs in close contact with one another can pick up contagious upper respiratory infections. A cough, frequent sneezing, nasal discharge, or changes in energy can all be signs that your pup isn't feeling their best.

If your dog has recently been boarded, attended daycare, or had close contact with other dogs and you notice coughing, increased sneezing, or other respiratory symptoms, give us a call.

Heat Warning for Pets β˜€οΈπŸΎ

The heat can be dangerous for pets in just a few minutes. Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day, make sure they always have fresh water and shade, and never leave them in a parked car. If your pet seems to be panting excessively, weak, or overheated, contact your veterinarian right away.

πŸŽ† July 4th is Almost Here! πŸŽ†

Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be stressful and frightening for many pets. If your dog experiences anxiety during fireworks, now is the time to plan ahead!

🐾 Don't wait until the last minute to request anxiety medication or refills.
🐾 Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date.
🐾 Create a safe, quiet space for your pet during celebrations.

Give us a call if you think your furry family member may need help staying calm this holiday. We're happy to discuss options to help make the Fourth of July less stressful for everyone.

πŸŽ‰πŸΎ Happy 5th Birthday to Our Favorite Black Cat, Louie! πŸΎπŸŽ‰

Today we're celebrating the one and only Louie, our clinic's official greeter, professional napper, treat inspector, and all-around office supervisor! πŸ–€πŸˆ

Louie is turning 5 years old today, and while he appreciates all the birthday wishes, he'd like everyone to know that he is currently accepting gifts in the form of nuggies. πŸ—πŸ‘‘

His birthday plans include:
🐾 Supervising the front desk
🐾 Judging everyone's snack choices
🐾 Taking several well-deserved naps
🐾 Collecting nuggies from his loyal subjects

Help us wish Louie a very Happy Birthday in the comments! πŸŽ‚πŸŽˆ

πŸŒπŸ† And the Winner Is... Dr. Rhoades! πŸ†πŸŒ

Things got a little bananas at Midlothian Animal Clinic this week during our Banana Bread Bake-Off! πŸžπŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

After some very serious taste-testing (a tough job, but someone had to do it πŸ˜‹), Dr. Rhoades took home the title of Banana Bread Champion! πŸ₯‡πŸŒ

The competition was fierce, the recipes were delicious, and the clinic smelled amazing all day long. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this a fun team event!

🐾 While our patients stick to their regular diets, our team enjoyed a little friendly competition and some well-deserved treats.

Congratulations again, Dr. Rhoades! πŸŒπŸŽ‰

While summer fun is in full swing, it's important to remember that our furry friends can overheat much faster than we do. Here are a few tips to keep your pets safe during the hot summer months:

🌑️ Avoid peak heat hours (10 AM–4 PM) when temperatures are highest.
πŸ’§ Always provide fresh, cool water and encourage frequent drinking.
🌳 Seek shade and cooling opportunities like kiddie pools, sprinklers, or air-conditioned spaces.
🐾 Protect those paws! Hot pavement can cause painful burns. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
πŸš— Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
⚠️ Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or lethargy.

Remember, a little water and a lot of supervision can make summer both safe and fun! πŸ˜ŽπŸ’¦
