When I opened Woodlake Animal Hospital in 2011, one of my first trips was to Richmond Animal League, where I adopted two kittens—Furgal and his sister, Fiona. They were meant to be clinic cats, but Furgal quickly became so much more.
He spent his entire life at Woodlake, growing up alongside the practice. He greeted clients, supervised the staff, found every sunny spot for a nap, and charmed countless visitors over the years. For many families, a trip to WAH wasn't complete without seeing Furgal. He wasn't "just the clinic cat." He was a coworker, a mascot, a welcoming committee, and a beloved friend.
Furgal watched Woodlake Animal Hospital grow from an empty building into a thriving practice filled with laughter, tears, healing, and love. He was there through every milestone, every challenge, and every celebration. It is impossible to imagine the hospital without picturing him somewhere in the background, quietly keeping watch.
He was a constant through every chapter of the hospital's story and a quiet source of comfort on both the best and hardest days. To our team, our clients, and to me, he wasn't just the clinic cat—he was family.
The clinic feels a little quieter. We will miss the familiar sight of him making his rounds, demanding attention on his own schedule, and reminding us that sometimes the best medicine is simply being present
Thank you, Furgal, for fifteen wonderful years of companionship, comfort, and unconditional love. You helped make Woodlake Animal Hospital feel like home, and you will forever be part of our story.
Run free, sweet boy. You will be deeply missed and always loved.
