We serve animals from the smallest dogs and cats to racehorses and bucking bulls and everything in between.

Pet parents: you may have seen recent news reports about the New World screwworm, a parasite that has recently been detected in parts of the southern United States.

New World screwworm is the larval stage of a fly that lays eggs in open wounds or body openings. The larvae feed on living tissue, which can lead to serious infections if left untreated. This parasite can affect livestock, wildlife, pets, and, in rare cases, people. 🐶🐱🐮🐷🐴

While this news can be unsettling, there are several steps pet owners can take to help reduce risk. Certain veterinarian-recommended parasite prevention medications may provide an added layer of protection against the New World screwworm for pets. While no preventive product can guarantee protection against New World screwworm, parasite control, along with prompt attention to wounds & skin issues, are among the best ways to help protect your pet.😷

We highly recommend regularly checking your pet for wounds, skin irritation, or signs of discomfort, especially if they spend time outdoors. If you notice a wound on your pet, please contact us immediately!☎️

This serves as a good reminder of the importance of routine wellness exams, especially during the summer months when your pet is spending more time outside. If you happen to notice anything unusual or have concerns about your pet's health, don't hesitate to bring them in for a check-up. When in doubt, our team is here to help in any way we can.🐾🐾🐾

🐾 Pet Appreciation Week 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the pets that are small, large, and all sizes in between who make our lives better every single day.

They greet us at the door, sit with us through difficult moments, make us laugh when we need it most, and love us without conditions. The joy, comfort, and companionship they bring are gifts we never take for granted.

To all the pets who have left paw (and hoof) prints on our hearts—thank you. ❤️

New world screwworm is in Texas! We are encouraging everyone to be hyper vigilant of any open wounds on livestock or pets. If wounds are noticed they need to be cleaned, treated and covered as soon as possible.

On June 3, 2026, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) received confirmation of a detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in Zavala County, Texas. The best thing that livestock producers and animal owners can do to prevent infestation is to put eyes on their animals as often as possible, remain vigilant by implementing enhanced management practices to avoid creating wounds, and promptly report suspicious wounds.

Welcome back Wednesday!🩺🤠

Y’all may notice a familiar face around the clinic for a little while. Ryan worked with us for a short time last year before heading back to college. This year, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a minor in Chemistry. 🎓🎉 We’re excited to have him back helping out! If you see him out and about on travel calls or in the clinic for your pet’s appointment, be sure to say hi and welcome him back.🤩

Speaking of Texas Tech, we had an adorable 7 week old puppy named Teddy come visit us today for his booster vaccines and exam with Dr. Olivo.🐶 Teddy’s mom arrived sporting a Texas Tech shirt, so it was only fitting to assume they are Red Raiders fans!❤️🖤During his visit, she mentioned he’d been dealing with a little upset tummy after a recent food change. To help get his stomach back on track, we sent home a probiotic and some supportive care recommendations.

We hope Teddy is feeling better soon and ready to join everyone in cheering on the Red Raiders tonight as they compete in the Women’s College World Series Finals. 🥎 Wreck ’Em, Ryan and Teddy! ❤️🖤🐾

🚨 Blocked Cats Need Immediate Veterinary Care 🚨

A urinary blockage is one of the most serious emergencies we see in cats, especially male cats.😳When a cat becomes blocked, they are unable to pass urine, causing toxins to build up in the body. Without treatment, this condition can quickly become life-threatening.🥺

Signs to watch for include:
⚠️Frequent trips to the litter box
⚠️Straining to urinate
⚠️Producing little or no urine
⚠️Crying or showing signs of discomfort
⚠️Vomiting, hiding, or decreased appetite

Many owners mistake these signs for constipation or a minor urinary issue, but a blocked cat cannot wait until tomorrow. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact us or an emergency clinic right away.

Early treatment can make all the difference. Knowing the signs and acting quickly could save your cat’s life. ❤️🐈
