This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

🎃🐈‍⬛ BLACK CATS & HALLOWEEN: FACTS, MYTHS & A LITTLE MAGIC! 🐾🖤

Halloween is the purr-fect time to celebrate our mysterious, beautiful black cats—but there are a few important things every pet parent should know!

🖤 FACT: Black cats are just as loving, playful, and goofy as cats of any other color. Their coat color does not determine their personality.

🎃 FACT: Halloween can be stressful for cats. Constant doorbells, costumes, loud noises, and strangers can make even the most confident kitty anxious.

🚪 SAFETY TIP: Keep your black cat indoors and safely away from the front door during trick-or-treating. A startled cat can quickly become an escape artist!

🍬 NO CANDY FOR KITTY: Chocolate, sugar-free candy containing xylitol, and other Halloween treats can be dangerous for pets.

🕯️ WATCH THE DECOR: Candles, electrical cords, glow sticks, and small decorations can create hazards for curious cats.

🧡 MYTH: Black cats are bad luck.
FACT: Absolutely not! Black cats have been considered lucky, protective, and even sacred in different cultures throughout history.

📸 BONUS: Black cats can be tricky to photograph—but those golden eyes against a dark coat make for some seriously stunning Halloween pictures!

This Halloween, give your favorite little panther a safe, quiet place to relax while the ghosts and goblins take over outside. 🐈‍⬛🎃

Because every cat deserves to be treated like the lucky charm they are! 🖤🐾

🎃🐾 HALLOWEEN AT THE VET: WHERE SPOOKY SHOULD MEAN FUN, NOT AN EMERGENCY! 👻

Halloween is full of costumes, candy, decorations, and excited little ghosts and goblins—but in veterinary medicine, we know some of those spooky things can create real hazards for our pets.

🩺 A FEW VET-MED HALLOWEEN REMINDERS:

🍫 Chocolate belongs in the trick-or-treat bag—not the pet bowl! Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats, and sugar-free treats may contain xylitol, which can be extremely dangerous.

🍇 Keep raisins and grapes away from pets. Even small amounts can cause serious illness in some dogs.

🎃 Decorations aren't toys. Candles, electrical cords, batteries, small decorations, and glow sticks can cause burns, choking, intestinal problems, or other injuries if chewed or swallowed.

🚪 Beware the Great Halloween Escape! Constantly opening the door for trick-or-treaters can give your pet the perfect opportunity to make a run for it. Keep pets safely indoors and away from the front door.

🐕 Costume = cute…if your pet agrees! Make sure costumes fit comfortably and don't restrict breathing, movement, hearing, vision, or the ability to eat and drink. And never leave a costumed pet unsupervised.

😿 Not every pet loves Halloween. If your pet is nervous around strangers, children, or loud noises, give them a quiet, comfortable room where they can relax while the Halloween festivities happen.

📱 And if your pet DOES get into something they shouldn't…don't wait. Contact your veterinarian or a veterinary poison resource for guidance as soon as possible.

👻 Our favorite Halloween emergency? The one that never happens!

From all of us in veterinary medicine, we hope your Halloween is filled with treats, wagging tails, happy purrs, and ZERO trips to the ER! 🐶🐱🎃

Have a safe and SPOOKTACULAR Halloween from your veterinary team!
