Serving Indianapolis and beyond. 🐴✨ Dr. Skillman is an equine veterinarian providing both in-clinic and ambulatory care for horses and their family members on the east side of Indianapolis. Dr. Skillman strives to provide a customized health plan aimed at extending the life and longevity of each horse in her care from all disciplines. Memberships include the American Veterinary Medical Association

(AVMA), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), and the Indiana Association of Equine Practitioners. The Vet Clinic for haul-in clients is located on a beautiful 48 Acre farm in Middletown, Indiana. Serving both ambulatory and in-clinic appointments allows access to treat more animals and provide specialized and long term care as needed.

Meet our new Customer Service Representative!

Lori Hunt is working in the Skillman Veterinary Services office as a Customer Service Representative. Lori and Dr. Skillman worked together from 2015-2018 at The Heritage Clinic.

She has been a dedicated part of the veterinary industry since 1994, bringing decades of experience, compassion, and commitment to animal care. Outside of work, Lori enjoys spending time with her husband of 29 years, their four children, and three bonus in-laws. Their family also includes Frankie, their French Bulldog, and Buddy, their cat.

Lori is a proud “Mimi” to two little boys and seven grand fur babies. In her spare time, she loves being outdoors, listening to live music, and making memories with her family. Welcome, Lori!

Hidden Cause of Colic: Enterolith Obstruction

What started as a routine colic workup quickly turned into a life-saving surgery. Hubcap, a 17-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, was referred by Dr. Natalie Skillman to Purdue University Veterinary Hospital after showing signs of colic, decreased appetite and reduced manure production.

Despite intensive treatment and supportive care, his symptoms continued to return and veterinarians were unable to identify the cause through initial diagnostics.

Further imaging eventually revealed a large intestinal stone (enterolith) that had become lodged in his colon and was causing a blockage. Hubcap underwent emergency surgery to remove the enterolith, and the procedure was successful.

An equine enterolith is a mineral stone that forms in the colon, most commonly made of magnesium ammonium phosphate. It develops when a small object or piece of material in the gut (the nidus) becomes the center for mineral buildup, and layers of minerals gradually deposit around it over time.

✨ An Exciting Update from Skillman Veterinary Services

We are excited to share that Dr. Natalie Skillman will be transitioning into a new role with Dechra Equine USA as an Equine Professional Services Veterinarian.

While this exciting opportunity represents a new chapter in Dr. Skillman’s career, Skillman Veterinary Services is not going anywhere. We will continue providing high-quality equine veterinary care to the horses and clients we proudly serve, with a more focused appointment schedule beginning June 16, 2026.

As we look to the future, we are also actively recruiting an additional equine veterinarian to join our team and help continue our commitment to exceptional patient care.

To our clients, colleagues, and the Indiana equine community – Thank you for your trust, loyalty and support over the years. We are incredibly grateful and excited for what lies ahead.
