❓ "Where do your animals come from?" 🐾

We get asked this question all the time at the shelter, and the answer is a little different for our cats versus our dogs! Here is a peek at how our furry residents make their way to Safe Animal Shelter:

🐱 Cats & Kittens:
• Kittens: The vast majority come to us as tiny strays found in the community!
• Adult Cats: Most arrive as strays or owner surrenders.
• Transfers: A small portion transfer in from partner facilities that need extra help.

🐶 Dogs & Puppies:
• Transfers: Most of our current dogs come from partner shelters! As part of our lease agreement with another facility, taking in some of their animals is a major way we work together to save lives. However, we also try to help other partner facilities whenever space allows.
• Surrenders & Strays: We take in an equal number of local strays and owner surrenders, but because those pups tend to get adopted so quickly, our transfer dogs make up more of our daily population!

Every single animal has a unique origin story, but they all share the same destination: a safe space with us until they find YOU! 💙

🚨 SHELTER SUPPLY REQUEST! 🚨

If you ask our cats and dogs, the food bowl is always half empty! But in all seriousness, our shelter inventory is running low on daily essentials, and we could use a restock!

We are currently in urgent need of:
• Iams Kitten Wet Food (Chicken Pate & Cuts)
• High Protein Pedigree Wet Dog Food
• Clorox Wipes
• Baby Wipes
• Bleach
• Laundry Detergent (No Lavender or Amazon Basic please - we have staff membersthat are allergic)

Hi everyone in Orange Park and surrounding areas. If you have ever wanted to learn to play Mahjong, get your ticket now and come on out to The Grove at Orange Park Country Club on Wednesday Sept 9. This will be Mahjong 101 and 102. Your ticket includes dinner and we will have lots of fun, and the best part is it’s a fundraiser for Safe Animal Shelter . If you know nothing about the game or if you have been playing for years, come on out! Please share this post!

🐾🧡 It’s Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🧡🐾

Is there anything quite like the charm, chaos, and sweetness of an orange cat? Today we’re celebrating all of our resident ginger babies—starting with our extra-resilient star, Aristo! 🌟

At just 5 months old, Aristo has spent 4 long months at the shelter fighting off everything life could throw at him (bot flies, coccidia, giardia, and now cryptosporidium!). But today, he’s celebrating Ginger Cat Appreciation Day from the comfort of a cozy staff foster home! 🛋️❤️

He’s finally learning how to be a real house cat after all he's been through. He’s recovering beautifully, and we hope he’ll be cleared for adoption very soon! 🤞✨
