Today I got pulled over by the police.
My heart instantly dropped. You know that feeling — hands at 10 and 2, suddenly very aware of your speed, your blinker usage, your entire driving history flashing before your eyes.
Without even thinking, I glanced at my Shih Tzu riding shotgun and whispered, “Act normal.”
Y’all… this dog transformed.
He sat up tall in the passenger seat like a decorated war veteran. Chest out. Back straight. Ears posture. That square Shih Tzu jaw set with pure dignity. Eyes forward like he pays taxes and volunteers on the weekends. If confidence had a face, it was his.
When the officer walked up to the window, he paused mid-sentence.
He looked at me.
Then at my Shih Tzu.
Then back at me.
And he just started laughing.
“I’ve seen nervous drivers,” he said, “but your copilot looks like he’s about to testify in court.”
Meanwhile, my Shih Tzu didn’t flinch. Didn’t blink. Didn’t move a muscle. Just sitting there like the most law-abiding citizen in the entire vehicle.
I’m convinced that posture alone saved me from a ticket.
Sometimes it’s not what you say — it’s who you bring along for the ride.
And apparently, I roll with a very convincing co-pilot. 🐾
