Cockatiel Friends. National Cockatiel Society(NCS), is a wonder place for any information on anything cockatiel. There is informative knowledgeable people who spent years and years working strictly with cockatiels. There are list for breeder in each and every state across the United States. NCS is a community of friendly folks who will will help anyone in support of ethical breeding and care of cockatiels. They host competition competing for ribbons, bringing people together from the four corners of this country, to socialize and have a great time.
Im asking if anyone owns a cockatiel and would like to learn more or want to join and being showing your cockatiel and maybe learn how to start breeding to compete with your own birds. In 33 yrs of raising birds. When i joined NCS about 4yrs(2022) ago was best thing I’ve ventured into since raising cockatiels. Not always about winning. Getting together with folks who can talk cockatiel or even parrots all day long and not realize time disappeared. Come check US out.

This is a public awareness post. Something many people over look. But needs to be know.
If your walls and window frames, sills haven’t been replaced (updated) and your house is very old. Please do not allow birds to chew walls and think nothing will happen. Sad story but like I said it needs to be put out for people to read.
This rare blue throated macaw. Was gifted to me. And I only had her for 2 months. 30 days she was in Quarantine. Disease tested negative for everything. I added her to my flight cage. Bird was acting normal and eating. No problems. One day she look off. So I took her to vet. Had bloodwork done and came back she had lead paint poisoning. Liver and kidneys levels were so high she was lucky to be still alive. Few days of meds and I woke up and she was gone. 2 yrs old. I pay attention to every little thing. And I wasn’t expecting a bird so young to only have a short life from something we can prevent.

Shorten this story. She was free roaming not caged bird. And was able to eat the previous owners walls and window sills. I tried everything the vet wanted me to do. Cost was not a big deal. Saving birds life was most important.
I will fight if any animal needs my help. I’m not a vet. Why I will always go to as many vets as it takes to find the correct answer. But we can only do what we can. This girls liver and kidneys just couldn’t handle it.

Please please don’t allow your animals to chew your old painted furniture or walls.
