To maintain a rare breed, periodically it is important to reach back through the decades to bring forward the qualities of the ancestors we so admired in those days.
We are super excited to announce the successful breeding of Mystique Pond Katyaaq and Aspencreek’s Jackson Tyee. This breeding will bring some of the successful old lines back to the forefront. These lines were successful not only in the show ring but in working competitions and sledding. The dogs behind this pedigree were healthy, with good bone and excellent temperaments.
We are very grateful to Sarah Day for her support and trust in us with Jackson’s precious semen. Jackson was a very special boy.
Aspencreek's Jackson Tyee (2000–2013), known as Jackson or Jack, was bred by Cheryl and Sarah Brown and stands as one of the most historically significant dogs in the modern preservation of our Chinook breed. Jackson was known for his friendliness, working build and striking looks.
Jackson was a UKC Grand Champion and gained widespread recognition as the official Chinook representative for the state dog of New Hampshire. He was also featured on the main American Kennel Club (AKC) website to represent the breed standard.
As a foundational figure and prominent sire in the breed's modern lineage, he was a highly valued sire who passed down his calm and friendly temperament, rich tawny coat, and trademark amber eyes.
A few notable descendants of Jackson include:
- Aspencreek's Pal's Bro ("Bro"): A direct son who inherited Jackson's famous friendliness, working build, and striking looks, living a long and healthy life.
- Lakeside Run's Little Bear (known as "Birr"), Jackson's grandson, who made history at the 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2014, winning Best of Breed the first year Chinooks were allowed to participate.
- Ranger: Grandchild who carried on the legacy.
Mystique Pond Katyaaq, aka Kiana, out of our Mountain Thunder Enya and sired by Gateway Shaktoolik, is our 6-year-old, athletic, and highly expressive keeper from our first litter. Kiana has a sweet temperament and is deeply devoted to her family, she loves all people, with a particular compassion for toddlers.
Kiana’s outstanding conformation and movement have been confirmed by her successes in the show ring. She holds multiple high-level conformation titles, including AKC Champion (CH), and Best of Opposite S*x (BOS) at the AKC Chinook National Specialty in 2024. She also earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate.
Kiana is also highly decorated in UKC, she is a UKC Grand Champion (GRCH) and became the National Best of Breed at the COA Chinook National Specialty in 2022. She was in the Chinook Top 10 list multiple years, ranking number one by a large margin in 2022. Kiana has not been shown recently as we have been focusing on breeding this lovely girl, this is Kiana’s second and last litter.
