It’s not a problem here until it is!
This flesh eating parasite can affect both dogs and cats. The problem is most prevalent in pets that have open wounds. Cats that go outdoors or live outdoors may be more of a target since cat fights can lead to open wounds.
There are products that have FDA approval to treat this issue. Nexgard and nexgard combo for example can be given to dogs and cats respectively along with a few other products in the isoxazoline class. Comfortis does not work for this issue.
Stay ahead of this issue. Always check your pets for wounds, skin irritation and foul odors and only use products deemed safe and effective by your veterinarian to treat and prevent this potential threat.

I am often asked about the chance to choose another profession if I could. Why would I choose another profession? You all know me.
If I had the chance to come back as someone else in another life I would prefer to come back as a dog. Sometimes we need to appreciate what life is like on the other end of the stick.

It’s nice to have sunny days during rain season. Even nicer when you can take your dogs for a walk on Lincoln Road or near the beach etc. Just remember to take a separate water container for them. Communal water bowls that some parks or businesses put out are a definite no no.
That’s a quick way to spread and pick up parasites and bacteria like giardia and lepto to name a few.
Don’t risk it. Take their water.

If we let AI make all of our decisions for us, soon our brains will atrophy. As the saying goes ‘ Use it or lose it’
