IV Catheter Workshop Recap 🩺🐾

This past Monday, our members joined a hands-on IV catheter workshop led by a Certified Veterinary Technician. They learned what IV catheters are used for and practiced patient restraint, site preparation, catheter insertion, and proper securing techniques.

Zoo Miami Keeper Maintenance Event RECAP! 🐆🪏

Thank you Zoo Miami for an amazing volunteer opportunity! Our FIU Pre-Vet students helped with habitat maintenance in the Florida Everglades section, moving and spreading pea gravel around the water feature. They also learned more about the care that goes into protecting these animals.

Idris will share more about the work happening at their wildlife rehabilitation facility and the volunteer and internship opportunities available. If you’re interested in gaining hands-on experience, learning more about local wildlife care, or finding a way to give back to the community, this is a great chance to learn how you can get involved. 🐦🍂

Join FIU Pre-Vet for a hands-on volunteer day at Zoo Miami! Help with exhibit maintenance in the Florida Everglades section and get a closer look at what it takes to care for animal habitats.

⏰ 8:00 AM - end time depends when we finish but probably around 11
📍 Florida Everglades section, Zoo Miami

We’ll be moving and spreading 50-pound bags of pea gravel around a large water feature. This is a physically demanding project involving heavy lifting, wheelbarrows, and shovels. Afterwards we will be getting a behind the scenes tour of the vet and sea turtle hospital from the vets at ZooMiami.

Space is strictly limited to 6 approved students. No high school students or walk-ins will be allowed. Please RSVP only if you can commit to attending. Submitting the form does not guarantee a spot. Watch your inbox for an official confirmation from [email protected]. *Only the first 6 approved participants will be able to attend.*

Suture workshop recap 🪡

A huge thank you to Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Kuscevic for leading such a great workshop, and to everyone who joined us! We learned about different suture types and techniques, when to use them, why sutures matter, and common mistakes to avoid.

We also had the chance to practice different suturing techniques ourselves, which helped us get more comfortable with the tools and better understand how each technique is used.

Sea Turtle Rehab & Conservation event recap! 🐢🌊

This Saturday, October 3, we had an amazing time at the rehab center. Spots filled within an hour, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us! We helped with a beach cleanup, got hands-on experience with animal care and turtle enrichment, and learned more about sea turtle rehabilitation and conservation.

Our first GBM of the semester was a success! We had 70+ students join us across MMC and BBC, and we’re so happy to start the semester with such a great turnout.

We shared how to get involved as an active member, talked about upcoming workshops, and went over helpful internship resources and other opportunities. Stay tuned for what’s coming next, and make sure to join us at future GBMs for updates throughout the semester!
