Forebrain dysfunction can affect a pet’s behavior, awareness, vision, movement, and even cause seizures or circling.

Four neurological conditions that can affect the forebrain include brain tumors, strokes, brain inflammation, and hydrocephalus. While these conditions can share similar neurological signs, determining the underlying cause is essential for guiding treatment and prognosis.

If your pet suddenly begins circling, experiencing seizures, showing behavior changes, pressing their head, or having difficulty seeing, a neurological evaluation may be recommended.

Neurological conditions may be discussed more often in dogs, but cats can experience complex disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system too. 🐱🧠

Conditions such as FIP, meningioma, CNS lymphoma, ischemic myelopathy, and inner or middle ear infections can cause neurological signs in cats. Depending on the condition, these may include changes in behavior, difficulty walking, balance problems, seizures, or weakness.

Early recognition and appropriate neurological care can make an important difference for many feline patients.

Extra weight can affect more than your pet’s overall health. It can also have an impact on their neurological health. 🧠🐾

In honor of Pet Obesity Awareness Day, we’re sharing why maintaining a healthy weight matters in veterinary neurology, including its connection to conditions like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of supporting your pet’s mobility, comfort, and overall well-being. ❤️

IVDD doesn’t always begin with an inability to walk. Sometimes, the earliest signs are subtle changes in your pet’s movement, behavior, or comfort that can be easy to miss. 🐾

Reluctance to jump, changes in posture, trembling, or changes in activity can all be early clues that something isn’t right. Recognizing these signs can help pet parents know when it’s time to seek veterinary care.

Visit our website to read the full blog at sevneurology.com/blog and learn more about the early signs of IVDD, why they occur, and what to do if you notice them in your pet. ❤️

Not all seizures have the same cause. 🧠

We’re breaking down three types of seizures based on what’s causing them: reactive seizures, structural seizures, and idiopathic epilepsy.

While the cause can vary, identifying what may be behind a pet’s seizures plays an important role in guiding diagnostic testing, treatment, and long-term management.

Visit our website to read our latest blog and learn more about the different types of seizures in pets. ❤️

Neck pain isn’t always caused by an injury. 🧠 Several neurological conditions, including cervical IVDD, meningitis, discospondylitis, cervical spinal tumors, and atlantoaxial instability, can cause neck pain in pets.

Recognizing signs like a lowered head, stiff neck, reluctance to move, or yelping can help pet parents know when it’s time to seek veterinary care. ❤️
