You guys know I can't resist new and exciting advancements in equine veterinary medicine! π€
I'm excited to now offer on-farm objective gait analysis using SLEIP technologyβan innovative tool that helps me take a closer look at how your horse moves.
Why is this valuable? Subtle asymmetries can be difficult to see with the naked eye, especially when they are mild, intermittent, or developing over time. Objective gait analysis gives us measurable data that can help identify subtle movement patterns, establish a baseline, and track changes over time.
Even better, owners can record their own horses remotely and send the recordings to me for remote analysis. This can be incredibly helpful for monitoring horses between visits, evaluating changes in performance, or keeping an eye on a known issue.
Itβs important to note that SLEIP is not a true lameness "locator.β It will not say "lameness in right stifle" or "Left front check ligament". Rather, it is an additional tool that complements a thorough examination, helping gather more objective information about your horseβs movement. It's one piece of a bigger picture!
My FAVORITE time to do a SLEIP analysis is when there are no active problems. This give us a great baseline for ideal performance. We know not every horse moves perfectly symmetrically so this let's me document what is "normal" for your horse, so we can pick up on subtle abnormalities before they become a full limping lameness.
It's seriously soooooo cool and has SO much potential! I am just starting to scratch the surface of how I can use this data to make more tailored and individualized performance plans for your horse!
