Day 7, we’re still open! Just excuse the dust.. and power limitations running on a generator.. and phone lines down 😵‍💫 We appreciate you supporting us ❤️

⚡️ Day 6 ⚡️

Still no power. Still on generator. Still open.

We’d be lying if we said Day 6 isn’t wearing on us a little. With trees and poles still down and untouched, we know we’ve got a ways to go. So for now, we keep showing up, keep the generator running, and keep taking care of the animals and our customers. ❤️

Come on, power… we’re ready for you.

⚡️ DAY 5 WITHOUT POWER ⚡️

Still on generator. Still OPEN. And unfortunately, our Comcast phones are still down. 😵‍💫

As this outage stretches on, we want to make sure those of you without generators know what to watch for—especially with your aquariums. 🐠

🦎 REPTILES: With the warm temperatures we’re having, lack of A/C isn’t the concern right now. Continue monitoring your enclosure temperatures and make sure they don’t get too hot.

🐠 AQUARIUMS — a few important things to do:

1️⃣ Hang-on-the-back filters:
Drain them. You don’t want stagnant water sitting in the filter being dumped back into your aquarium when the power suddenly comes back on.

2️⃣ Canister filters:
Take them apart and drain them now. Have everything ready to restart when power returns. Standing water inside a canister filter can go bad quickly.

3️⃣ Watch your fish:
If they’re breathing heavily, hanging near the surface, or the water is becoming cloudy, consider a partial water change of up to 25% and manually agitate the surface of the water for several minutes to help increase oxygen exchange.

⚡️ DAY 4 WITHOUT POWER — BUT WE’RE STILL OPEN! ⚡️

We know many of our customers are still without power too, so we put together some important tips for keeping your fish, reptiles, and corals safe during an extended outage. 🐠🦎🪸

⚡️ DAY 3 WITHOUT POWER — BUT WE’RE OPEN! ⚡️

We’re still running on generator power and have adjusted things to make sure our animals are getting what they need — with extra generator power going toward keeping our reptile heat and coral systems running. 🦎🪸

We know many of you are still without power at home too, so here are a few things to keep in mind:

🪸 CORAL OWNERS:
A few days without your normal lighting is generally okay, but if the outage continues much longer, you’ll want to find a way to get lighting back over your tank. Corals rely on light to keep their zooxanthellae alive and cannot go without it long-term.

🦎 REPTILE OWNERS:
Heat is critical. Keep a close eye on the temperature in your enclosures. If you’re struggling to keep your reptiles warm or aren’t sure what to do, please reach out — we’re happy to help guide you.

🐠 AQUARIUM OWNERS:
We have just a few battery backup air pumps left in stock, with another shipment expected Friday.

💡 BATTERY BACKUP TIP:
Don’t necessarily run your battery air pump continuously! If yours has a cycling mode, use it. Otherwise, you can manually cycle it to help conserve battery life.

Depending on your tank size and bio load, you might try:
• 1 hour ON / 30 minutes OFF
or
• 1 hour ON / 1 hour OFF

This can help stretch that battery life much longer during an extended outage.

❤️ We’re OPEN, we’re making it work, and we’re here if you need us. If you’re without power and concerned about your fish, corals, or reptiles, stop in and we’ll help however we can.
