๐Ÿ• BREED SPOTLIGHT: Beagle ๐Ÿ•

NOSE FIRST, everything else second.

Beagles were bred to track scents for HOURS. That incredible nose isn't just cute - it's their whole world. They experience life through scent in ways we can't even imagine.

What Beagles need:
-Scent work and sniffing games (hide treats, create scent trails)
-Safe space to follow their nose without getting into trouble
-Mental enrichment that engages their tracking instincts
-Understanding that "selective hearing" is really "I'm locked onto a scent"
-Secure environments (that nose can lead them FAR)

Train a Beagle? Absolutely. But work WITH the nose, not against it.

Beagle parents - does your hound have a favorite sniffing spot?

Ever notice dogs of the same breed tend to find each other during play? ๐Ÿพ

Corgis herd. Huskies chase. Retrievers fetch. Bostons wrestle. Labs do a little bit of everything.

When dogs have similar play styles - matching energy, compatible size, the same communication - they gravitate toward each other naturally. It's not planned. It just happens.

And honestly? Some of our favorite moments are watching these breed groups figure each other out.

๐Ÿ• BREED SPOTLIGHT: Siberian Husky ๐Ÿ•

Siberian Huskies were bred to RUN. Like, really run. 50+ miles a day pulling sleds across frozen tundra.

That energy doesn't disappear just because they live in Wisconsin now.
What Huskies need:

-SERIOUS exercise - walks don't cut it for this breed
-Mental stimulation to match physical output
-Cool environments (they overheat easily - yes, even in winter)
-Safe, secure spaces (Huskies are escape artists and wanderers)
-Understanding that independence โ‰  disobedience (they were bred to make decisions)
-Activities that let them USE their endurance (running, hiking, pulling)

Huskies aren't high-maintenance - they're high-ENERGY. When you give them outlets for that drive, they're incredible.

Husky parents - how do you keep your sled dog satisfied?

National Pet Day with my favorite mini pin. ๐Ÿพ

Snookie has been my sidekick for 15 years now.

Your turn: Drop a PHOTO of your pet + what they're completely obsessed with in the comments. I want to know what your pets are actually like at home!

(And don't forget your cats, birds, bunnies, lizards - all pets count today!)

We'll start: Snookie - food, car rides, and sleeping under blankets

๐Ÿ• BREED SPOTLIGHT: German Shepherd ๐Ÿ•

German Shepherds were bred to work - herding, protection, service. That drive doesn't just disappear because they live in a suburban home.

What GSDs need:
-Structure and routine (they thrive on it)
-Mental challenges - puzzle toys, training games
-Physical exercise that lets them USE their body (not just walking)
-A job to do - even if it's just "find the treat"
-One-on-one attention from someone who gets them

These aren't high-maintenance dogs - they're high-INTELLIGENCE dogs. There's a difference. When you meet them where they are, they're absolute stars.

GSD owners - what does your shepherd love to do most?

๐Ÿ• BREED SPOTLIGHT: Golden Retriever ๐Ÿ•

Golden Retrievers were bred as hunting companions - which means they're not just athletes, they're problem-solvers who NEED mental work.

What Goldens need to thrive:
Puzzle feeders to engage their brains
Scent work games (hide treats, create tracking challenges)
Retrieve games with varied challenges - not just fetch
Swimming when possible (they're water dogs!)
Toy rotation to keep things novel

A tired Golden is a happy Golden - but mental exhaustion is just as important as physical!
Does your Golden love a good challenge? Tell us their favorite enrichment activity in the comments! โฌ‡๏ธ

Sunny's Q1 reading list โœ”๏ธ

I've always believed that understanding dogs means never stop learning โ€” and these four books have genuinely changed how I see and work with them.

Top 2 picks if you're only going to read two:

-The Other End of the Leash โ€” Your dog is watching you just as closely as you're watching them.
-The Culture Clash โ€” Dogs aren't being bad when they act like dogs.

What's one thing you wish you understood better about your dog? Drop it below โ€” it might just be my next read. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Starting this month: BREED SPOTLIGHT ๐Ÿ•

After three years of boarding dogs, one thing has become crystal clear - every breed is different. Not just in looks, but in what they NEED to thrive.

A Golden Retriever's perfect day looks nothing like a Beagle's. A German Shepherd's enrichment needs are totally different from a Husky's.

So we're launching a new series where we'll spotlight different breeds we work with, share what makes them unique, and give you ideas for how to meet those needs at home too.
Because understanding your dog's breed isn't just useful for us - it helps you give them their best life. ๐Ÿพ

First up this week: Golden Retrievers. Stay tuned!
