🩷 A Small Business Reminder 🩷
After six years of running my little business, I’ve experienced my fair share of wonderful customers, difficult situations, constructive criticism, and everything in between. One thing I’ve learned is that not every customer will love every product, and that’s okay.
I am always open to feedback. If something about an order isn’t right, if something could have been done differently, or if there is something I can improve on, please tell me. Constructive criticism helps me grow, and I genuinely want my customers to be happy with what they receive.
What I do hope, however, is that when reaching out about an issue, you’ll remember there is a real person behind your order.
Every item I make is handmade by me. I spend hours creating, sewing, assembling, packaging, and preparing orders. I put a lot of time, effort, and genuine passion into what I make. I’m not perfect, and I absolutely acknowledge that mistakes can happen. When they do, I want the opportunity to address them and make things right.
But there is a difference between saying “I’m disappointed with this” or “I think this could have been made differently” and using words intended to tear down the person who made it.
You can be unhappy with a product.
You can ask for a refund.
You can point out something that needs improvement.
You can decide my products aren't for you.
You can do all of those things without being unkind.
And something that customers may not realize is that hurtful interactions don't necessarily end when the conversation does. When you tell a small business owner that something they've spent hours creating is terrible, crappy, or poorly made, those words can stick with them. Sometimes it means needing to step away, regroup, and remind yourself not to doubt years of work because of one person's opinion. And when you're a one-person business with orders waiting to be made, that emotional setback can unfortunately affect the work you're trying to do for other customers too.
After six years, I know I can't please everyone and I'm okay with that. I will continue learning, improving, and listening to constructive feedback. But I also believe that kindness and respect should go both ways.
To everyone who has supported my business, left kind feedback, been patient with me, and appreciated the love that goes into your handmade pieces thank you. You truly mean more to me than you probably realize. ❤️
Please remember there is a person behind the small business you're messaging. You never know what your words might mean to them. 🫶
