🎺🩷Shadow Husky Rescue has an update on 10 year old 💖MARU ID we broke out of the Carson shelter a week ago!

He is settling in well with our foster Anne and her husband Ben. He’s immersed himself with their 2 huskies, cats and horses and is loving all the comforts and joys of her beautiful 🏠home inside and out! He gets up and starts to run around like a puppy wanting to play with the other huskies and pounce that is so heart warming to see!!💓

⛑️After starting with an initial 3 day treatment course of Panacur, Maru had his 2nd veterinary exam at the VCA Van Nuys vet (he had his 1st while he was at the shelter thanks to Old Blue, Inc.) He was generally found to be bright, alert, and stable, with normal temperature no obvious signs of infection (including ear) or dehydration and tests came back no Giardia either! He tested heart worm negative, too🎉 and was given a month’s dose age of Credelio. He does has some right hind limb lameness (Carprofen was prescribed) which may need an orthopedic evaluation given his age.

🛁Maru had his first bath and actually seemed to enjoy it. He was very spunky when he got out of the shower and did some little mini zoomies.🐕✨

🐾🙏🏽If you pledged for Maru please honor them. Shadow Husky Rescue has only received a small fraction of pledges on Maru. We run 100% on donations to cover all costs involved in rescuing our beloved huskies including Maru❣️

🐕Taloh’s owner endured brain surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. A divorce ensued, + Taloh moved from a family home with a yard to a small apartment. Her owner’s friend since high school has been 100% supportive and reached out to Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. on a mission to find darling sweet Taloh a 4-ever new home! 5 qualified candidates reached out to adopt, but the Augenstein family from Ohio stood out (aka Batman Bruce’s Godpawrents who have helped support Bruce through his journey). David & Denise have been husky owners for 44 years (since 1982) + currently have 2 males Razzy + Blizzy, + 1 female Rosie. Their 1st phone call was a 1.5 hour conversation discussing their husky loving lifestyle because everyone wants what is in Taloh’s best interests. Seeing videos she called the Augenstein’s home + property “dog heaven”. After discussing relays, she volunteered to bring Taloh herself from San Diego, California, to Conneaut, Ohio. Her journey began Friday! It takes a very special 🩷dedicated🩷 person to drive 2500 miles, not only for Taloh, but also for her friend, + for the Augensteins. She is expected to arrive on Wednesday! Taloh is being a wonderful well behaved passenger, she’s very vocal when it’s time to potty, + zonks out at night. The 1st night was Flagstaff, AZ, and yesterday they made it to Albuquerque, NM. On Sunday they crossed into Texas! She explored the rocks saying “come on let’s go!” They also encountered a few lizards🦎🦎. Stay tuned….the BEST is yet to come!

Master Wolf with Shadow Husky Rescue has an owner surrender out of Chula Vista Ca. that needs a good home soon! Here is what the owner had to say about 2 year old Lucky~

“Hi.
I am looking for help in rehoming my Husky.
His name is Lucky.
Located in Chula Vista.
He is 2 years old, neutered.
Up to date vaccines.
He is friendly, smart and has a lot of energy. He is a beautiful Husky.
He knows “sit” and “shake”
Looking for new loving home since; new rental policy doesn’t allow large dog breeds on property.
They gave me sometime to find him a new loving home.
I added some photos of Lucky.”

The Heritage Oak Private Education school is one of the true hidden gems in northeastern Orange County. This pre-K through the 8th grade school focuses on music + visual arts which “inspire creativity, foster self-expression, and build confidence,” based on the school’s website.

This school’s MASCOT IS A HUSKY!!!! Huskies are imprinted all over their walls + their academic materials. 🐕🐾

Christina Cuddy, the Philanthropic Chair of the Parent Assistance League of Heritage Oak Private Education, located in Yorba Linda, California, invited me to the school on March 20, 2026, where I handed out Shadow Husky Rescue emblazoned SHR bracelets, spoke to parents, staff and students about Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. + told them specifically about our charitable husky life saving rescue mission.

I stayed for several hours + was treated to a variety of musical concerts by students of many different ages, including some who recently performed at Carnegie Hall!! Each talented student is a young inspirational marvel excelling in academics, music + song. I was told that each student upon enrollment receives a violin!! Wow!!! The concert was breathtaking and magnificent.

On April 1, 2026, the school sponsored a Jog-A-Thon, then last week sent Shadow Husky Rescue a donation in the amount of $1,201.21! We were so honored and touched especially by the families who care about the huskies we rescue from shelters and the streets, including the displaced, unwanted, abused, lost, abandoned or scheduled for euthanasia and provide them with a second chance at life by finding them permanent homes. Please join me in giving a HUGE thank you to the Heritage Oak Assistance League who facilitated this donation.

In the coming months, I will be speaking with the school Board to organize a concert where YOU can be invited, and yes, perhaps some HUSKIES too!! This concert will mutually benefit Shadow Husky Rescue and The Heritage Oak Private Education School! Wouldn’t that be wonderful!!! If you are interested in helping me brainstorm and organize, please contact me (Liz McVicker) at (949) 290-3217.

GO HUSKIES🐕ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!

FREEDOM FOR MARU❣️Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. broke out 10 yr old Maru ID at the last minute Saturday from the Carson shelter. That look in his eyes seeing him walk around outside before getting into the rescue van was priceless! What an easy going temperament❣️Liz McVicker loved him up along with Vickie our dearest friend husky owner and shelter volunteer!

Maru wasn’t expected to last through Memorial Day weekend on his final extension! Vickie has been hounding us for weeks regarding the Carson senior huskies! Yesterday morning after hearing her plea for help (AGAIN) we reached out to a former adopter Andrew who gave us a firm offer to foster through the weekend to buy us time to find a long term foster.

Off Liz went to get Maru at the shelter where she encountered Daniel who drove from Venice, CA, to meet him hoping to get another extension to get the wife onboard. The shelter and us weren’t having it - - -he needed out of that confined kennel and noisy shelter right then and there. ✨Hopefully✨though numbers were exchanged. Then while driving through Hollywood to get to Andrew Liz received a call from Ann Shea wanting to foster! That’s when Maru hit the jackpot. Liz changed direction drove to Anne and Ben’s home in Glendale. The meet and greet was magical! Maru got to meet THEIR 2 huskies Cali and Elsa both tripods! And one of the horses unfazed him but it’s way too early for the cats!

What an amazing day! All because the right people in rescue came together right down to the networkers shelter staff and Vickie! Thank you to Old Blue, Inc. for getting him to the vet this week!

“The divine insanity of noble minds, that never falters, nor abates, but labors, endures, and waits, till all that it foresees it finds, or what it cannot find, creates” -Longfellow

🐾💎“It is rough treatment that gives souls, as well as stones, their luster. The more the diamond is cut the brighter it sparkles.” -Thomas Guthrie 💎🐾

Perris, California, has become a notorious dumping ground for dogs and other animals. Perris is the neighborhood next door to Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc.’s administrative office. For months I have been taking the backroads from the office to get to our fence supplier in Perris, on busy State Route 74, for the 1000s of feet of fencing we’re putting up at our SD sanctuary. Nearly each drive through I notice AT LEAST 1 dead dog alongside the road. It’s truly disgusting, disturbing, and disheartening to witness. This area is very much like Fontana where we rescued husky Athena in an abandoned lot back in December 2024, where she had been living for 3 months, with other dogs + coyotes. ((Athena was pregnant from an unaltered male named JT who was picked up by Devore shelter before we got to Athena. Less than 1 week at the shelter he was killed. Athena eventually gave birth to 6 Belgian Malinois pups in our home.)) There are dumping grounds all over SoCal while shelters are euthanizing dogs left + right.

Last month I had a conversation with Esther from The SPAY(CE) Project that has provided spay and neuter surgeries for over 450 dogs in 2026 1st quarter. Locally they have teamed up with Feeding Perris Strays to address the overpopulation crisis in Perris. Feeding Perris Strays is dedicated to feeding, protecting, and advocating for homeless, abandoned, and at risk dogs and cats in Perris and surrounding communities.

When Alexis from Feeding Perris Strays reached out on Tuesday for help with this 2 - 3 year old precious female we’re calling Sassy that was dumped in Perris and found alongside 3 German Shepherd dogs a week ago, we immediately stepped up to take her under our auspices to find an adopter and permanent placement into a loving 🏠 home. Fully vaccinated and spayed she is now available for adoption. If you are interested in more information please text us at (949) 290-3217 and complete our application in comments 🙏🏽🐾🩷
