With the weather warming up next week, it might be tempting to let your dog go for a swim, but watch out for blue-green algae in local lakes and ponds. It can be harmful for humans and pets.
Look before you leap! Check the water before jumping in to protect yourself from blue-green algae. We've had reports of algae blooms in Winnebago County - avoid water that looks like spilled green paint or pea soup, is discolored or streaky, or has mats floating on top.
Toxins from harmful blue-green algae can sicken people and animals who swallow, touch, or inhale droplets from contaminated water.
