Rico is a happy camper. Now he just needs a permanent campsite. 🏕️🐾

This handsome, 2-year-old adventurer has been enjoying the great outdoors with his foster family, and his résumé is pretty impressive: camping buddy, boating companion, dog-friendly brewery enthusiast, and accomplished couch potato. He believes in a healthy balance of adventure and doing absolutely nothing beside his favorite people. ❤️

Rico does great in the house (or tent), knows lots of tricks, and enjoys making friends with dogs and people alike.

Looking for a buddy for fresh-air adventures, snack breaks, and cozy nights in? Rico is ready to pack his toys. 🎒And because Rico is a Hidden Gem who has waited extra long to find his perfect family, his adoption fee is covered thanks to our generous donors.

Fill out an inquiry form to arrange a meet-and-greet with Rico!

Just a reminder that MHHS is closed today for the holiday.

While our doors are closed to the public, our dedicated staff and volunteers are still hard at work making sure the animals in our care have everything they need. A big thank you to everyone spending their holiday caring for our furry friends! 💙🐾

We'll reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, from 12–6 PM. We look forward to seeing you then!

Three miles, countless sniffs, a splash in the water, and a snooze on the ride home. Sounds like a pretty perfect field trip to us! 🐾

Adoptable Dyna recently headed to Six Mile Waterworks Park with one of her volunteer friends, and she had an amazing adventure day! While Dyna can be a little shy when meeting new people, she was ready to explore a new park as soon as they arrived. She happily hit the trails, investigated all the interesting smells, and even found her way into the water!

By the time they headed back, Dyna was snoozing (and maybe snoring...) in the backseat. 💙

Field trips give shelter dogs like Dyna a chance to decompress, explore new environments, and show us sides of their personalities we might not otherwise see. We're so grateful to the volunteers who make these adventures possible!

Dyna is 4 years old and looking for a home where she can be the only pet. She's also one of our Hidden Gems, animals who have been waiting for adoption for more than 100 days. Thanks to generous donors, her adoption fee is sponsored!

Could your next adventure be even better with Dyna?

The pause on cat adoptions has been lifted at MHHS. Cat adoption will resume tomorrow, Saturday, October 10. Cat intakes will resume on Tuesday, October 13 with appointment as space allows.

Cat adoptions and intakes were paused after two cats tested positive for feline panleukopenia virus. The first cat to test positive was in stray holding and was not exposed to the rest of the shelter cat population. They are recovering well. The second cat, who had stronger potential for exposure to the larger shelter cat population, had her confirmatory testing and secondary testing both came back negative. Our vet’s believe her initial positive test result was a false positive, which can happen with the quick testing used. No other shelter cats are testing positive at this time. Because of this, our veterinary team feels comfortable reopening cat adoptions for cats with low exposure risk to the virus.

We hope our cats who are waiting for the purr-fect family will get the chance to meet them very soon! Thank you for your understanding as we continue to do all we can to protect the health and safety of the cats in our care and in the community. 💙

🐾🍻 That’s a wrap on our 9th Oktopurrfest, and what a night to remember! 🍻🐾Last night at Brown's Brewing Company's Revolution Hall, we raised a glass, celebrated some local legends, and crowned a Feline Festmeister! 👑🐱

🍺 We toasted the four winners of our Happy T’ales B**r Label Contest, who are now officially local legends! And we met first-place winner Forrest, who is very sweet and literally hugs everyone.

👑 We crowned our new Feline Festmeister, Tomas. We knew he had the makings of a fine feline leader, but we had no idea of his incredible journey to the throne, against all odds. Tomas came from a shelter in Queens, and he was slated to be euthanized. But in the nick of time, he was rescued by The Pretty Paw Lounge in Rotterdam and found his way to a loving home. ❤️

😻 We bid a fond farewell to Festmeister Sybil and looked back on her reign. Watch her farewell video in the comments. (Because Facebook now charges for links in posts.)

A huge THANK YOU to our purr-esenting sponsor, Benson's Pet Center, our fantastic host and partner, Brown’s Brewing Company, our awesome emcee Jaime Roberts on The Radio, and the man with a song for everything, DJ Trumastr, for helping make the night unforgettable! 🎶🐾

And to all our incredible sponsors and everyone who came out to celebrate: you helped make the night special for the animals who need us most. We’re raising our glasses (and maybe a few tails) to you. 💚

Until next year, long live Festmeister Tomas! 👑🐈‍⬛
