The all-dogs side of Overton Bark is experiencing a plumbing leak underneath the water fountain. Water has been cut off, so the ground should begin to dry soon. The City's plumbing department is aware of the problem and has added the leak to its work order queue. Thanks for your patience while we deal with this issue!

Welcome back! Overton Bark is now open. Please read guidelines for safe use below, and consider making a contribution to refresh the mulch surfacing.

We're happy to announce that Overton Bark officially re-opened this morning. Welcome back, pups!

When visiting the dog park, we ask that you wear a face covering, keep a safe distance between yourself and others, and avoid the use of shared toys and water dishes. Please bring water for your dogs, as park water fountains are shut off due to the risk of spreading COVID-19. We've provided hand-washing stations near the Rainbow Lake and East Parkway pavilions.

We'll be doing cleanup and maintenance over the next week. Tomorrow morning, our landscaping crew will be weeding and cleaning up sweetgum balls, and next Wednesday the 26th, we'll begin installing a fresh blanket of wood fiber surfacing, which keeps the ground comfy for the dogs and makes the area wheelchair-accessible. On both days, we will leave one side of the dog park open as the other side undergoes maintenance.

On that note, we ask for your support in defraying these maintenance costs. The wood fiber costs $3,000 to purchase and $2,500 to install. In non-COVID years, the installation is handled by wonderful volunteer teams, but we don't want to put them at risk this year. If your pup is thrilled to be back, please use the donate button on this post to make a contribution!

This holiday weekend, please remember to . COVID cases are on the rise locally, with evidence of community transmission, which is why we've chosen to keep some amenities like restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, and Overton Bark closed. We welcome you to trails and open spaces but remind you to keep a safe distance from others, which means coming back another time if the park is crowded. Stay safe and have a happy 4th!

Construction has been completed at Overton Bark, but the new trenches will make the surface uneven until a new layer of mulch is added. The mulch will be delivered this week, and we will reopen the dog park following Saturday's volunteer mulching event. Join us from 8:00 to noon and help us get the dog park reopened! A look inside Overton Bark under construction:
Crews from Wagner General Contractors, Inc. have excavated the soil, dug four large trenches, and are filling them with fabric, gravel, and drain pipes. The trenches will be sloped slightly underground to give the water a place to travel, and we'll even that out on the surface with mulch. Now water should flow slightly downhill into either gravel or pipes and out into Lick Creek rather than pooling so much at the surface.

Thanks for your patience as we make these improvements, and thanks to Hollywood Feed and Tennessee Dog Park Dash for funding them!

Construction will begin tomorrow on the new drainage at Overton Bark, thanks to Hollywood Feed and Tennessee Dog Park Dash! The all-dogs side of the park will be closed from approximately tomorrow, September 10, through Wednesday, September 25. Please use the small-dogs side during construction.

After the project is complete, we're hosting a Volunteer Day at Overton Bark on September 28 to spread fresh mulch. We hope you'll join us!
