PSA TIME: LET’S TALK HEARTWORMS.
Nobody likes spending money on prevention. We get it. But please, please find a heartworm preventative that fits your beliefs, your lifestyle AND your pocketbook and talk to your vet about the options available.
Because the alternative can be a long, expensive and really rough road.
We have been seeing an uptick in dogs coming into the rescue heartworm positive, and poor H***h is now one of them.
Heartworm treatment isn’t just “give them some medicine and they’re good.” Treatment takes time. There are medications, injections, vet visits and, probably the hardest part for some dogs, serious activity restriction while those worms die off. Keeping a dog calm is already an Olympic event. Keeping one calm for medical reasons is a whole different level of fun.
And meanwhile, those nasty little freeloaders have been living in the dog’s heart and surrounding blood vessels without paying a DIME in rent.
H***h has a road ahead of him, and we’ll walk it with him just like we do with every dog that comes through our doors.
But his story is also our reminder:
PREVENTION. PREVENTION. PREVENTION.
There are different heartworm prevention options and different price points. Ask your veterinarian what is appropriate for YOUR dog. If cost is an issue, tell them. Ask about alternatives. Ask questions. Just don’t assume skipping prevention will be cheaper in the long run.
Trust us… H***h would like a word.
Also we understand h***h is not a frenchie butttttt look at that face we couldn’t say no
Protect those babies. Heartworms suck — literally.
