What do the first few sessions look like for our board & train pups? Lots of food, praise, shaping, and some fun!

In this short session Hank worked on some clear positive markers (the words that let our dogs know when and where to expect a reward 👀), place, and name recognition as the start of coming when called.

In his mind? We chased kibble around the room, jumped on a silly platform for snacks, and ended with lots of scratches. A pretty good day! 😃 While learning CAN be challenging or stressful, the foundations should be fun!

Welcome, Hank!

Hank is a young hound dog mix here to get a jump start on his obedience foundations so his family can best meet his needs as grows up. 🐾

That means no more jumping on the kids, or taking himself on walks around the neighborhood by himself (waiting at doors and respecting fences is an important life skill), walking nicely on leash, and being able to interrupt the rough and tumble young dog play when their older dog has had enough!

He’s a smart little guy that LOVES food 🐶, so we can’t wait to see what a great young guy he can really be!

Proud of this team is an understatement! Shannon came to me looking to “get her dog some track experience for a breed national.” A few years later, she’s winning that national. 🏆

I always say that the person that just wants to break a personal best with their dog has a goal that is just as important as the person whose goal is to take home a nationals win. And I’m happy to help them learn the ropes. The only rule we have is to train with constantly improving goals, and make each dog better than the one before it. Shannon has done that and more - safe to say they’ve caught the “bug” for excellence 😉 With slow consistent gains, they’re out there proving that Northern breeds can pull with the best of them (and correctly at that!)

Tired dogs are cute. A tired AND well-trained dog is even better. 💤 💕

For Gabriel, Day Camp gives us the opportunity to work on obedience, engagement, manners, and real-life social skills while his mom goes about her day at work.

Every dog has different goals, which is why we build training programs around the dog in front of us and what you want to accomplish together.

Have something you’d like to improve with your dog? Send us a message to start a conversation about training options for your best friend. 🐾

“Happy visits” at the vet aren’t just for client dogs - we use them with our personal dogs too!

Cooperative care takes practice, as does learning to accept restraints and manipulations that are sometimes necessary for medical care. 🏥 The end goal isn’t necessarily a dog that loves the vet, but a dog that can handle exams with minimal stress and conflict for themselves and the veterinary staff. You owe it to your pet’s care team to do your best to prepare your pet for routine care! The vet staff and your pup will thank you!

We used our visit with copleyfairlawnvet today to practice chin rests for non-invasive procedures, holding a dowel for a conflict free look at those all important pearly whites 🦷, and counter conditioning Kirby’s very valid (especially for his breed) uncertainty about being laid down on his side by anyone but his mom.

If you’re not sure where to start, try bringing lots of snacks and practicing a simple down stay while you wait to be seen at your next visit!
