It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of emergency medicine — the next patient, the next shift, the next hard conversation. So every once in a while, it’s worth stepping back.

Since we opened:
• 3,832 patient visits
• 1,054 visits in 2026 alone

Over 250 families needed a payment plan instead of a credit card — representing $380,000 in care. We believe financial stress shouldn’t be part of a pet emergency.

We started with six team members and one DVM. We’re now over 15, including four DVMs. Three technicians are working toward their CVT, and we’ve hosted three veterinary student externs, with two more scheduled.

We’re proud of what we’ve built.
We’re even more focused on what comes next.

More to come. 🐾

Edit; Thankfully, we're up and running normally again!

We are currently experiencing an internet outage, and our phones are not working at this time. If you need immediate assistance, please come directly to the hospital. We will update you as soon as service is restored.

Kitten Wonder first came in with severe burn injuries and needed extensive wound care and bandaging. Since then, she’s grown so much and is now fully healed! She’s moving around easily despite the injuries to her feet and is feeling like a young kitten should. We’re so happy with how far she’s come!

New at RVVE: Urgent Care Status Page

We’ve heard from so many of you, real-time updates matter. That’s why we’re excited to share our new Urgent Care Status Page!

Now, pet owners can:
🐾 View estimated wait times for care
🐾 Check their place in line once registered
🐾 Wait comfortably at home with non-critical pets instead of sitting in the clinic

This tool helps us focus on the most critical cases while respecting your time and your pet’s comfort. Emergencies are stressful enough—waiting shouldn’t make it harder.

At RVVE, transparency means more than open treatment areas. It’s about keeping you informed every step of the way—whether you’re at your pet’s side or waiting safely at home. 💙

Part 3: A Happy Ending
Many burn patients are humanely euthanized due to the extent of their injuries, but after diligent medical care and with her strong will to live, we’re happy to report that Kitten Wonder is thriving! Her wounds have closed, she is no longer painful, and her energy is back to that of a normal, curious kitten. She’s eating ravenously, gaining weight, and proving that even the smallest patients can carry extraordinary resilience.

Her story is a reminder for pet families:
- Burns are emergencies. Immediate care is essential to survival and recovery.
- Smoke inhalation can be just as dangerous as burns. Watch for coughing, nasal discharge, difficulty breathing or rapid breathing after exposure.
- Innovation and persistence matter. From honey to silver dressings to fish skin bandages, creative medicine and thoughtful approaches can change outcomes.

This chapter of pain and healing has ended for Kitten Wonder—but her journey is just getting started. Her fosters made Kitten Wonder a permanent part of their family and she is living her best cat life now - check out that cat wheel they got for her!

Part 2: The Journey
Kitten Wonder’s recovery demanded intensive daily bandage changes and medical care. Each dressing change required careful cleaning of the wounds. We applied medical grade manuka honey as well to promote healing and prevent infection. Any small infection or lapse in care could have resulted in serious setbacks for this patient. Despite her discomfort, she remained bright, eating, and purring—a testament to her good nature and resilience.

As part of her care, we explored tilapia skin bandaging, a technique borrowed from human medicine. Tilapia skin is rich in collagen and provides a biological covering that can reduce pain and minimize fluid loss. In addition, these bandages don’t have to be changed as often and can stimulate tissue repair and speed up wound healing. They do require more preparation and strict sterilization though, which our team performed in-hospital before applying them on Kitten Wonder.

Our wound care and tilapia bandage preparation reflects RVVE’s commitment to pushing boundaries—bringing advanced and creative techniques to even the smallest of patients.

Kitten Wonder did have some setbacks: she experienced constipation, then diarrhea, mild urine scalding despite vigilant care, a few bandage complications, and ultimately about 1/3 of her tail was too damaged and required amputation. Throughout everything, she continued to grow and strengthen - her only requirement was that we gave her treats during all of her bandage changes!
