Are you and your pup ready for the upcoming storm?

-Is your pup reactive, anxious fearful of storms: wind, thunder, lightening?

Helpful tips for anxious or reactive pups:
🎶-play music, use a noise machine to drown out the noise from outside.
🧩-use distraction techniques such as puzzle toys, Kongs, Pupsicles, add calming peanut butter for an added bonus.
🐕-have treats handy and use the opportunity to do a training session to distract them from fixating. Use a soothing voice, calming circular petting motion and keep them under threshold. 🐾-Keep your pup under threshold in all circumstances will set them up for success. Once they are over threshold, it’s harder or impossible to redirect and for them to listen.
🎧 -Noise canceling ear muffs, thunder hoods and shirts. You might have to try a few before finding one that works for your pup.
🙌-Having plans of action will take the anxiety off the table. Patience with your yourself and your pup. The calmer you are, the calmer they will be. Our energy will add to theirs. Meditation music for humans can be helpful too!

Is it too late for my dog to be socialized are they too old to work on their reactivities?
Old dogs can certainly learn new tricks. As part of their biology and survival they can learn, change and adapt until the day they pass.
How is this achievable and how long does it take?
We work with your pup in new environments and teach them through positive interactions that they are safe and can look to you for guidance. My training teaches you key management tools to facilitate this. With just a few sessions you will see a major improvement with your pups reactivity and over the course of training you will notice significant changes. Each dog is different and this type of training and relearning is an incremental process. Through making specific adjustments and being given new tools for your tool box will improve the quality of your dogs life and your life in turn. 🌲What is environmental exposure training and how will it help a reactive pup?
🐕Dogs who are reactive to their surroundings often need 2 things:
1- To be taught they are safe in specific situations. I teach pet parents Managment tools and techniques in a variety of circumstances to be the leader their pup can look to for guidance.
2-Dogs need their behavior patterns to be interrupted in a positive manner and taught a different response. I teach pet parents how to redirect their pup and the behaviors to implement in a variety of situations.
🐾We work in a variety of environments, working in easier calmer environments to set you pup and you up for success and increase the D’s (Distance, Distraction, Difficulty) at a pace that your pup sets according to how they progress with each 1 hour session.
🐶What they learn: how to trust unknown situations by having positive experiences, how to look to you for cues of safety and direction, through a combination of positive rewards such as treats, positive feedback, positive attention and a fun experience. They learn unknown people, dogs and environments can be rewarding and fun and their reactivity lessons incrementally.

Did you know once you hear your pup tap dancing it’s time to get them groomed or a nail trim?

Grooming schedules vary by coat type:
🐩long curly coats brushing 3+ times a week and professional grooming every 4-8 weeks to manage mats.
🐶Double coated breeds, consistent brushing, daily during shed season.
🐕Short haired breeds, weekly brushing and baths every 4-5 weeks.
💅Nail trims all breeds every 4-6 weeks.
📅Weekly tasks: Brushing teeth, ear check, body handling to keep pet used to being touched.

Grooming can be either a calming bonding experience with your dog or a battle.

Did you know there’s a difference between having a dog who is reactive to other dogs on leash and being aggressive towards others dogs?
Figuring out the why is important to make that distinction.
-Does your dog pull and want to greet and get frustrated in the process?
-Is the leash a barrier in your dogs mind and making them act differently when they are off leash?
-Are they possibly protective of you?
-Were they never socialized with other dogs on leash or only socialized with one or a few known dogs?
All of these things play a factor to “why” they might have a reaction while on walks to other dogs.
What you can do:
-Redirect them with a focus cue you have “previously “ worked on with them over time in calm controlled environments, such as The Name Game, touch, see me.
-Redirect them with your voice and talk to them in a calming voice, your tone is important not the words.
-Bring high value treats, a toy, chew and pair that with verbal praise and positive touch to reassure and reinforce the wanted behaviors.
-Ignore the unwanted behavior and direct to a wanted behavior and give attention and praise.
Unsure how to do all of this? I can help and offer free consultations.

Did you know dogs can hear 4x’s more than humans?
Which makes it even more impressive when they ignore you.
Most times they’re confused because dogs don’t generalize in situations so it might take them time to comprehend what is being asked of them.
I can help:
🐾I bridge communication gaps between pet parents and their pup, by fine tuning already known cues. We break the cues down to the basics rework out any habits that you or your pup have learned over time that is impeding them from being able to listen.
🐾Did you know dogs do not generalize behaviors, you have to teach them a behavior in the house then the backyard, front yard, on walks, in the car, in public places so they know how to listen and perform the cue in each situation.
🐾We then take each cue into different situations and environments graduating in difficulty working through the 3D’s at a pace that will stay with your pup.
