Pain isn't always easy to recognize—especially in animals.

Our pets can't tell us when something hurts, and some may instinctively hide their discomfort. That makes paying attention to changes in their behavior, routine, and overall demeanor an important part of caring for their health.

Never hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian if you notice a change in your pet’s behavior or suspect they may be in pain. 🤍

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month

Our pets can’t tell us when something hurts, and unfortunately, they don’t always show pain in obvious ways. That’s why recognizing the subtle signs of pain is so important to their health, comfort, and recovery.

Throughout September, we’ll be highlighting Animal Pain Awareness Month and sharing more about how pain can present in our veterinary patients, including the signs you may notice at home.

We’ll also take you behind the scenes at Veterinary Specialists of Hanover to talk about how our specialists approach pain management, including the analgesics and multimodal pain-control strategies we use during procedures and surgery, as well as the medications and recommendations we provide for recovery at home.

From recognizing pain to preventing and treating it, our goal is simple: to keep every patient as comfortable as possible before, during, and after their procedure.

Stay tuned throughout the month as we take a closer look at how we identify and manage pain in our patients. Because comfort is an important part of healing.

Happy Birthday to our founder and surgeon, Dr. Kristy Broaddus! 🤍

While her expertise and dedication to veterinary medicine are a huge part of what makes Veterinary Specialists of Hanover so special, anyone who knows Dr. Broaddus knows there’s so much more to her than her impressive surgical skills. She is fun, loving, compassionate, and has a way of making the people and pets around her feel genuinely cared for.

We’re incredibly lucky to have her leading the VSH family and are grateful for all she brings to our team, our patients, and our community. Please join us in wishing Dr. Broaddus a very happy birthday!

We hope your day is filled with all the love and laughter you bring to everyone around you. 🥰

✨ THE WAIT IS OVER! ✨

We’re excited to officially introduce the newest addition to Veterinary Specialists of Hanover: VETSCAN IMAGYST™!

This advanced technology allows us to digitally send cytology slides directly to clinical pathologists for review, giving our team access to professional expert interpretation in as little as two hours.

Previously, cytology slides had to be physically shipped to an outside laboratory for review, which could mean waiting days for results. With VETSCAN IMAGYST™, our team can now connect with clinical pathologists much more quickly—helping our specialists make informed decisions and provide answers for our patients sooner.

Less waiting. Faster answers. Expert review.

We’re proud to bring this technology to Veterinary Specialists of Hanover and continue finding ways to provide the highest level of care for our patients!

Amy joined our team in May as a Clinical Support Veterinary Assistant, and in just a few short months, she became such a valuable part of our team—helping both our Surgery and Internal Medicine services thrive!

Yesterday, we celebrated her last day with us as she prepares to head to Clemson University for an incredibly exciting next chapter: becoming a member of the inaugural class of the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine!

What an incredible opportunity to be part of history while pursuing her dream of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine!

To say we will miss Amy is an understatement, but we couldn’t be more excited to watch her take this next big step. We know she is going to do amazing things!

Congratulations, Amy! We are SO proud of you and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish!

Unexpected veterinary expenses can happen to anyone, and not having pet insurance doesn't mean you're out of options.

In this week's VSH Insights, we're explaining why specialty care costs what it does, discussing financing resources that may be available, and sharing where to look for additional financial assistance if your pet needs advanced care.

Every pet's situation is unique, and we're always happy to talk through your options. If you have questions about your pet's recommended treatment or available payment resources, don't hesitate to ask.

Today was Emily’s last day with our Internal Medicine team, and while we’re absolutely gutted to see her go, we couldn’t be more excited for what comes next.

From the very beginning, Emily has been open about her long-term goal of pursuing a career in healthcare management. So when the opportunity to become an Assistant Practice Manager at a dermatology practice came along, we knew it was one she couldn’t pass up—and we are so proud of her for taking this next step!

To her new work family: you’re getting someone truly special. Emily brings an infectious personality, a heart of gold, a Southern accent you’ll never mistake for anyone else’s, and a sense of humor that somehow made even the busiest days feel lighter. She has a way of making everyone around her smile, and we’re still trying to figure out how we’re supposed to get through the day without hearing her voice.

Emily, thank you for everything you’ve brought to our Internal Medicine department, our patients, and each of us. Your kindness, dedication, and ability to make us laugh will leave a lasting mark on our hospital.

We’re going to miss you terribly, but we know you’re going to do amazing things. Congratulations on this exciting new chapter—you’ll always be part of the Veterinary Specialists of Hanover family. 🤍

(P.S. In case you can’t read the banner behind Emily, it says, “We were just starting to like you”. We thought we’d keep things light… because the alternative involved way too much ugly crying.)
