The end of February found us dancing for our friends at Green Ridge Village. We had a few new paws and feet joining us!

We welcome Cathy and her pooch Zar to our troupe! Cathy and Zar have come through our classes and took the leap joining the Steppin’ Woofs and did a wonderful job at this their first performance with us.

Then Jo, missing her partner Ozzie, joined up with a friend's dog Ciaran in our last class session and wowed us and the residents at Green Ridge Village with Ciaran's first performance with us.

Both Zar and Ciaran have other dog sports experience behind them and the benefit of cross training showed.

Our thanks to Green Ridge Village for inviting us to perform for them again and we thank the residents for the dog treats especially made for our dogs. They were a BIG hit!

Check out our routine videos and pics...

It's been a rough year for The Steppin' Woofs. We've recently lost another bright light.

Ozzie, Jo's faithful and joyous partner, has gone on ahead.

Ozzie was one of the lucky ones. Rescued from a neglectful situation, Jo showed Ozzie how fun life could be. Following in the footsteps of Jo's previous Steppin' Woofs dancing partners Teddy and Toby, Ozzie strutted his stuff entertaining many in our community with energy and glee. He gave his all whether dancing with us, enjoying Dog Scout Camp, or using his nose in scentwork.

We will miss his energy, his vocal proclamations, and his snazzy dance moves. Rest well, big guy. 💔

We had a fairy dust ball of fun at the 31st annual Fairy Festival hosted by the Rosemary House in downtown Mechanicsburg on September 7th. Lots of little fairies about, face painting, games, bubbles, and vendors for any fairy need. Thanks, Rosemary House, for inviting us.

Our Steppin’ Woofs family lost another sparkling star this week. Cecily’s Gracie lost her battle with cancer.

Cecily and Gracie came to us through the freestyle class we offer, and more devoted students would be hard to find. Every week they came back to class having conquered the assignment, ready for more. Cecily quietly absorbed the lesson, jotting notes down in her book, and Gracie gave her full attention to the task at hand.

They joined The Steppin’ Woofs with the same devotion, rarely missing a gig or an event. Gracie was always impeccably groomed, and with Cecily’s wide knowledge of music, their costumes, the clever and well thought-out and well performed routines, they were the crowd pleaser wherever we went. Their wonderful relationship was there for all to see.

We will miss Gracie’s bright light.

The Steppin’ Woofs recently lost one of their brightest lights. Our founder, Mary Kutulakis, passed away in her sleep this past week.

Mary had a knack for bringing people together and touched many people’s lives with her can-do optimism.

She opened her dog training school, the Fieldwood Dog Training Center, in the 1990s, teaching classes and mentoring new instructors, helping hundreds of people and their dogs live their happiest lives together. She was always curious, open to new ideas, and organized many workshops and seminars that covered the newest, cutting-edge theories of dog training and canine freestyle.

Her outreach to the community included working with rescues, police departments, and children striving to instill a better understanding and harmony between humans and dogs.

It was over 20 years ago Mary brought together her love of dogs and of music and said, “let’s put on a show” and ever since, The Steppin’ Woofs have done that.

Some adjectives people have used to describe Mary are kind, spunky, delightful, caring, funny, encouraging, a bright light, one of a kind, and I’ll add, a good friend. One of our favorite Mary quotes is “When you stumble, make it part of the dance”. We will miss her shining light.

Here’s a video of Mary with The Steppin’ Woofs entertaining at a senior citizens center. Ever the teacher, it starts with Mary explaining how we teach our dog freestyle moves then ends with a dance.

In Mary's honor, please give your dog a hug today.
