Upper Allen Dog Park Friends

Upper Allen Dog Park Friends We are here to support and promote the off-leash dog park in Upper Allen Township of Mechanicsburg, P We will soon begin construction!

In the fall of 2013, Upper Allen Township developed a survey to determine if there was much interest in developing a dog park in our community and the results were highly in favor of it. A committee was then established to move forward with the initiative. We have been working hard on researching grants and other funding sources, visiting other dog parks, and determining where in our township to p

ut this park. On September 20th Upper Allen Township and Daybreak Church signed a lease agreement with Daybreak Church leasing land to the township for the dog park. We have done a lot of the work already but will need additional volunteers to help us finish this in time. Please contact us through Facebook or by contacting the township if you would like to help.

Please keep your dog on lead all the way from your car until you're in the entry kiosk. It's not your dog that could be a problem. It's other dogs who may not get along and conflicts when one animal is not under control can escalate. Dogs off leash in any park except within the fenced dog park area are a violation of Township Code. We are not police. We're all just puppy parents. So please comply with this. There is also a problem in the other parks with folks just letting their dogs run. This is what the dog park is for. Thanks and happy spring!

Thank you to Dr. Ivan Pryor and Dillsburg Veterinary Center for the contribution of first aid supplies for the dog park! We’re working with UAT Parks Department to mount a container in the gate kiosk for the supplies. Special thanks to governance committee member Andrea Fought for coordinating this donation. ❤️www.dillsburgvetcenter.com

ICE! Be careful at the park this morning and anytime there is snow melt with freezing temperatures. If it’s wet this morning, it is black ice!

CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG !! There are SEVENTEEN piles of p**p along the entrance path. I understand snow. I understand how difficult it can be handling a dog in this weather. But there is NO EXCUSE for this! Parks supplies waste bags for our use at stations at the entrance and each section. Parks takes great pride in this park and works hard to keep it nice for us. The least we can do is clean up our crap.

On the bright side, the Board of Commissioners when they approved the budget for 2026, included three permanent shade structures. There will be one for each area. Careful consideration will be made for placement in each area to maximize the shade benefit. These should be in by late spring hopefully.

Folks, I've worked for ten years with the Dog Park Committee, Park and Recreation Advisory Board, to convince the Commissioners to build this park. With the Daybreak Church helping to make this possible, I believe we have the best park in the area. So let's do our part to keep it nice. If you see a dog not being cleaned up after, say something. Thanks.

Good news! The Township Parks Department has announced that the Dog Park path to the kiosk will be plowed by the end of the day. Thanks for being patient. Parks are in the bottom tier for priority after main roads and developments are plowed. Note that no salt will be laid down and areas may be slippery... Good for our puppies' paws but something to be careful with for the parents.

Friends please be patient until the walkway into the entry kiosk is cleared. Our Parks staff has been working since Saturday to assist public works and the sewer team to get our roads clear. Parks, as I’ve shared before, are not done until the roads are clear. But they always do the dog park!!

A special thanks top our Parks Department for putting together the 'Paws with Claus" event Saturday. Ripken loved Santa...

A special thanks top our Parks Department for putting together the
'Paws with Claus" event Saturday. Ripken loved Santa who happens to be our own Roy from the Parks staff. If you've seen Roy at the park doing maintenance, you'll remember him having treats for all the dogs. I also appreciate Chad Krebbs, Parks Director, Eddie Mera, Assistant Director, and Alexis Minana, Executive Aide to the Township manager. We are so fortunate to have these brilliant folks working for us! See ya at the park!

Snow! When it happens with accumulation, the Township does clear the path to the entry kiosk. There is a protocol for snow removal with the main roads and residential done first and then the parks. But it will be done so be patient. I'm always amazed at how much some dogs enjoy the snow.

Just a reminder that this weekend is an Open House where the gate will be unlocked and guests may try the dog park to see if their pet enjoys it. The gate will be unlocked Friday night and re-locked Sunday night. Not every dog is right for a dog park experience. This gives the public the chance to visit before registering their pet.

A new gate lock was installed earlier this week. The shade sails have been removed for the season. I attended a Township budget meeting yesterday and there is money in the proposed budget for commercial shade structures in each of the three areas. This is not approved yet but has been on the radar for months after the lease with the church was extended. If approved and adopted, the structures would be installed in 2026.
