Upper Allen Dog Park Friends

Upper Allen Dog Park Friends We are here to support and promote the off-leash dog park in Upper Allen Township of Mechanicsburg, P We will soon begin construction!

In the fall of 2013, Upper Allen Township developed a survey to determine if there was much interest in developing a dog park in our community and the results were highly in favor of it. A committee was then established to move forward with the initiative. We have been working hard on researching grants and other funding sources, visiting other dog parks, and determining where in our township to p

ut this park. On September 20th Upper Allen Township and Daybreak Church signed a lease agreement with Daybreak Church leasing land to the township for the dog park. We have done a lot of the work already but will need additional volunteers to help us finish this in time. Please contact us through Facebook or by contacting the township if you would like to help.

Good morning friends! I’d like to share a couple of things with you. Carmen and I have moved from the area after many happy years here in Upper Allen Township. I am no longer in the Park and Rec Board and she is no longer Chairperson of the Dog Park Committee. So I have to give some credit to folks that have helped create this wonderful social experience for our dogs AND their owners. Many of you have developed great friendships with other dog parents at the park. That is a benefit we educated the Board of Commissioners on when lobbying for the park. They are all strong supporters. So our deep thanks goes out to all who have been involved in creating, developing and maintaining this wonderful space. First in memoriam, remember John Burch. John was Chair of the Rec Board for a bit and a prime mover in getting the park funded. We lost him far too early in life and the bench at the entrance to the entry kiosk is dedicated to him. We also planted a birch tree to the right. Amy Cook was a former Rec Board member and Chairperson of the Dog Park Committer. She was instrumental in getting the park established. Sharon Hower who chaired the Committee and brought her marketing experience to us. Chad Krebs, Parks Director and Eddie Mera, Assistant Director have been responsible for keeping the park maintained at the top level. The various members of the Dog Park Committee, formed of Dog Park registered residents. Former Township Manager Scott Fraser who ran ridden the design and construction of the park. Former Commissioner Paul Rigney who was the liaison to the Rec Board and provided support and shared that a dog park is not just for dogs with his fellow Commissioners. and the Township staff who register our dogs, provide information and handle extra social media suppport. Thanks Alexis! and thank you if you’ve read yet another manifesto of mine. Remember, if you see a maintenance or other issue, contact the Township. Any security concerns, contact the Township Police on their non emergency line. Ripken, Carmen and I miss the park and our friend there. But we drive by when coming up for appointments. Of course Ripken freaks out as we drive by because he knows where he is. Thank you all for your support of this park. It is special. Jeff Williams

A reminder for all our dog parents:

* Please keep your dog on leash before entering the entry kiosk and afterwards all the way to the car.
* Do not let someone in that "forgot their fob" or just wants to try the park out.
* If a dog or person is injured by another dog, report it to the Township police at 717-795-2445.
* Small dogs are permitted in the large dog area but large dogs should not go into the small dog area.
* Clean up after your dog!! Help keep an eye on other pets to assist those owners who may miss a deposit.
* Report any maintenance concerns to the Township at 717-766-0756.

Thanks!

It's our 8th year anniversary! Thank you to everyone in Upper Allen Township who made the dog park a reality! It's not a park for dogs, it's a space for people who have dogs!

This weekend the dog park hours have been extended due to the summer solstice. Enjoy the longest day of the year!☀️☀️☀️

Please keep your dog on lead all the way from your car until you're in the entry kiosk. It's not your dog that could be a problem. It's other dogs who may not get along and conflicts when one animal is not under control can escalate. Dogs off leash in any park except within the fenced dog park area are a violation of Township Code. We are not police. We're all just puppy parents. So please comply with this. There is also a problem in the other parks with folks just letting their dogs run. This is what the dog park is for. Thanks and happy spring!

Thank you to Dr. Ivan Pryor and Dillsburg Veterinary Center for the contribution of first aid supplies for the dog park! We’re working with UAT Parks Department to mount a container in the gate kiosk for the supplies. Special thanks to governance committee member Andrea Fought for coordinating this donation. ❤️www.dillsburgvetcenter.com
