🦷🐾 Let’s talk about pet dental health! 🐾🦷
Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in dogs and cats? And unfortunately, our pets can be very good at hiding it!
In today’s video, Dr. Hoover explains some of the signs of periodontal disease and why keeping your pet’s mouth healthy is so important.
Some signs of dental disease can include:
🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Yellow or brown buildup on the teeth
🦷 Red, swollen, or bleeding gums
🦬 Difficulty chewing or dropping food
🦩 Pawing at the mouth
🦷 Loose or missing teeth
🦷 Decreased appetite or changes in eating habits
But dental disease isn’t just about bad breath! Plaque and tartar can lead to inflammation, infection, pain, and damage to the tissues supporting the teeth. Much of the disease occurs below the gumline, where you simply can’t see it by looking at your pet’s teeth at home.
That’s why prevention is so important! Regular dental care at home, along with routine veterinary dental evaluations and professional cleanings when needed, can help keep your pet’s mouth healthier and more comfortable.
During a professional dental cleaning at our hospital, we can thoroughly clean above and below the gumline, evaluate each tooth, and identify problems that may otherwise go unnoticed. Addressing dental disease early can help prevent more serious dental problems down the road. ❤️
