☎️ Vet Tech Week Spotlight: Our Client Service Representatives! 🐾 You might know them as the friendly voices on the phone, the smiling faces at check in, or the people helping you navigate appointments, prescriptions, and all the questions that come with having pets.

But they do SO much more than answer phones and schedule appointments!

They help coordinate your pet’s care, communicate with our medical team, keep things moving when the phones are ringing off the hook, and help support you during some of the hardest moments of being a pet parent. ❤️

They are often the first people you talk to when you need help, and they work hard to make sure you and your pets feel welcome, heard, and cared for.

And yes, they can be doing about 12 things at once while still sounding cheerful on the phone. We are not entirely sure how they do it either! 😂

🐾 Vet Tech Week Spotlight: Our Veterinary Assistants! ❤️ The treat dispensers. The professional pet snugglers. The extra set of hands. The ones who can somehow clean up a mess, comfort a nervous patient, and still tell you that your pet is adorable while doing it. 😂

Our veterinary assistants are an incredibly important part of your pet’s care! They help prepare for appointments and procedures, keep patients comfortable, assist our doctors and LVTs, and make sure all those little details that matter do not get missed.

Sometimes it is a gentle hand, a favorite treat, or just sitting with a scared pet that makes all the difference. And our assistants bring that care to work every day.

We are so thankful for the heart, hard work, and patience they bring to our hospital. ❤️

Our Licensed Veterinary Technicians do SO much behind the scenes and are a huge part of keeping your pets safe, comfortable, and cared for. They bring skill, knowledge, compassion, and a whole lot of heart to everything they do.

But the best part? They do it because they LOVE helping your pets live their happiest, healthiest lives. ❤️

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

We’re not saying Hanna has never done anything wrong… but have you seen that face?! 💕

That is the face of a kitten who is clearly innocent of all charges. No matter what she may have been up to, there is simply no way to be mad at her. 😂 We have a feeling Hanna is going to get away with a lot in life simply because she is too cute to prosecute. 💕🐾

🦇 Another rabies reminder from Eastern Washington. This one happened about 2.5 hours from us in Asotin, where a bat found near a school tested positive for rabies. Several children had contact with the bat and were referred for post exposure treatment.

So while this isn't right in our backyard, it is a good reminder that rabies is still something we need to take seriously here in the Inland Northwest.

Before anyone starts eyeing every bat in the neighborhood suspiciously… don't panic. 😂 This case is a reminder to be aware, not a reason to be afraid of every bat you see. Most bats are not rabid, and simply seeing a bat or having one fly overhead is not considered an exposure, they are vital part of our ecosystem and are just really neat animals!

If you see a bat: please don't touch it. Even a bat that appears dead, sick, or unable to fly can pose a risk. Bat bites and scratches can be tiny enough to go unnoticed, which is why direct contact should always be taken seriously.

And don't forget about your pets! 🐶🐱 Keeping dogs, cats, and ferrets current on their rabies vaccines is one of the best ways to protect them if they encounter wildlife. If your pet catches or plays with a bat, don't pick up the bat with your bare hands and don't throw it away. Call your veterinarian or local public health department for guidance on what to do next.

Multiple children who attend Asotin-Anatone School District in eastern Washington are receiving post-exposure prophylaxis treatment after being exposed to a bat that tested positive for rabies.

Nigel came to us as a very sick kitty with an intestinal obstruction.💙 He needed surgery and care that his family wasn’t sure they could afford.

Thankfully, Nigel became a recipient of a Hope Funds grant, helping provide the care he needed to get through a very scary situation. And here’s the part we really want our community to know: Hope Funds are made possible by people just like you.

When you choose to make a donation at checkout, those dollars help create a fund that can provide financial assistance to pets and families right here in our own community when unexpected veterinary emergencies happen.

🐾 Fleas. Nobody wants them. Unfortunately, they don’t care. You may not see fleas on your pet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there! Fleas can hide in the environment and on your pet, and just a few fleas can quickly turn into a much bigger problem.

A few things to know:
✨ Fleas can cause intense itching and skin irritation
✨ Some pets can develop flea allergy dermatitis from just one bite
✨ Fleas can transmit tapeworms
✨ Finding fleas on your pet often means there are also flea eggs and immature fleas hiding in the environment
✨ Fleas can survive indoors year round, even when it’s cold outside
