🐾 Sip. Celebrate. Save Lives.🐾

✨On Saturday, October 3rd, from 4-7 PM, we’re taking over LucidWild Estate for a very special evening: Yappy Hour! Since we haven’t hosted a major fundraiser in person since 2019, we know many of you are wondering what guests can expect at this event….so let’s talk about it!

🌟Yappy Hour is the start of a new annual tradition for Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society; it’s a night to come together, celebrate our impact, and raise crucial funds for our shelter’s daily operations. There will be delicious food and drinks, music, a silent auction, photo booth, and plenty of other fun opportunities to support our work (like a w**e wall, 50/50 raffle, and custom mini pet portrait commissions!). Guests will spend most of the evening mingling with friends in LucidWild’s rec room lounge, w**e caves, and speakeasy, but we’ll also come together for a short program and paddle raise.

🥂We’ll be serving heavy appetizers, charcuterie, and dessert, accompanied by w**e, b**r, signature dog and cat-themed cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverage options. Each guest will receive a complimentary drink ticket upon arrival; additional drink tickets will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Vegetarian food options will be available.

🍾 Our venue, LucidWild Estate, opened last summer in Dundee and is located just 15 minutes away from our shelter! In addition to beautiful vineyard views, striking modern architecture, and cozy gathering spaces, we thought this would be a perfect spot for Yappy Hour because of LucidWild’s dedication to making a positive impact. This w**ery is committed to sustainability, gives back to mission-driven nonprofits, and supports local wildlife through habitat preservation efforts at their estate. They also care for a variety of adorable resident farm animals! We’re so excited to partner with LucidWild and introduce more of our community to this incredible new space.

🎟️Tickets are limited and on sale now! We’re also still looking for event sponsors and item donations for our silent auction. To purchase tickets, become a sponsor, donate an auction item, or learn more about Yappy Hour, visit the link below:

After six years of hosting our biggest annual fundraiser from behind a screen, it’s time to retire our virtual auction, Paws for a Celebration. While this event carried us through some extraordinary years of future planning and major change, we finally have a little more “room” to celebrate…and we think that calls for getting together!🎉

Introducing ✨YAPPY HOUR✨— a brand-new signature fundraising event benefitting Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society.

We hope you’ll join us at LucidWild Estate on Saturday, October 3rd, for an evening of great food and w**e, signature cocktails served in a secret speakeasy, a silent auction, paddle raise, and plenty of other opportunities to help local pets and support our lifesaving work.

Let’s raise a glass to what comes next, while raising the funds to make it possible!🥂

Tickets are available now and space is limited! We’re also looking for event sponsors and donations of items, experiences, gift certificates, services, and more for our silent auction.

One week ago, we finally cut the ribbon on our new facility: The Joe and Julie Julson Shelter. After more than 15 years of planning and hard work, there are no words to convey just how special this moment was for all of us at Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society. While the new shelter is dedicated first and foremost to our founder, it’s also dedicated to every board member, employee, volunteer, adopter, donor, and contractor who helped us turn this dream into a reality. We’re so grateful to be a part of this community, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you as we officially kick off our grand opening weekend TOMORROW MORNING!🎉

We’ll be open Saturday and Sunday from 11:00-3:00 for meet and greets, adoptions, and building tours.
Our goal for this event is to clear our kennels and find forever homes for all of our resident dogs and cats. Our general contractor, Worx Construction Company, has even generously offered to sponsor all adoption fees through the end of the weekend!

PLEASE NOTE:

🐾We recommend that you review our adoption requirements and adoptable pets online before visiting the shelter, as completed adoption applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. All adopters must have valid ID and proof of home ownership or landlord pet verification.

🐕 If you’re bringing a dog from home to meet one of our adoptable dogs, please keep your dog in your vehicle when you arrive and alert a member of our team so we can facilitate a meet and greet.

🐈 if you’re planning to adopt a cat, please bring a cat carrier with you.

🚫 We are currently closed for intake and will not be able to accommodate surrender requests during our grand opening event. We plan to resume intakes by appointment after clearing our kennels!

Mushu Russell gives a big paws up to the F-15 Eagle!!!

Mushu is a big goofy guy, Neutered male, 2-3yrs old, Rottweiler/Husky Mix.

Adoption fee is $100, until end of day on Sunday August 23rd.

Come visit him at our Grand Opening Saturday August 22nd and Sunday August 23rd from 11am to 3pm.

A big thank you to the shelter team for keeping our animals safe and knowing which dogs are comfortable with the noise level.

‼️ADOPT MAX‼️

Max has been with us since 2024 and is one of our shelter’s longest-term residents. This very good, very big boy is a five-year old German Shephard/Husky mix weighing in at an impressive 98 pounds! Our shelter team describes Max as a gentle giant; he’s laid-back, knows all the basic commands, loves to play with toys in short bursts, and enjoys going on daily walks with his human friends. While Max is great with children, he needs to be the only pet in his new home.

In March of 2025, Max attended our new shelter’s ground-breaking ceremony and kindly offered to dig the first hole himself. Our team loves Max very much but we’re hoping he won’t still be at the shelter for our grand opening weekend; this new chapter for us should be a new chapter for him too. If you think you might be the right person for Max, please reach out to us to schedule a meet and greet! You can also share this post to help us find Max’s forever home.

🌟Dog adoption fees are just $100 through August 23rd! Help us clear our kennels so we can make room for other pets in need!

With just 20 days left until our grand opening, we’re asking for your help to achieve a really important goal: clearing our shelter!

This picture was taken the day we started moving our dogs into their new kennels; it was such an exciting, emotional, and long-awaited moment for our team. While these kennels are modern, spacious, and much more comfortable than the kennels in our old building, we know our dogs would be much happier living in loving homes.

Our goal is to find homes for as many of our dogs as possible by the end of our grand opening event. We want to see our kennels look like this picture again…EMPTY!

Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society is a no-kill shelter. We do not euthanize animals due to space limitations or long lengths of stay. Without adopters and fosters, we get stuck operating at capacity and are unable to take in other animals that need help. We love every single animal that enters our shelter and will always care for them until they’re adopted, no matter how long it takes.

Over the next couple weeks, we will be highlighting our long-term resident dogs that we especially want to find homes for, like:

❤️Gemma and Max (here for more than 2 years)

❤️Goose, Millie, & Spud (here for almost 2 years)

❤️ Saskia (here for over 1.5 years)

Many of our other dogs have been with us since the start of 2026. Please help us find them homes and empty our kennels so we can help more local pets in need!

🌟VOLUNTEERS AND FOSTERS NEEDED🌟

The grand opening of our new shelter is just a few weeks away, and we’re looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team and help care for our adoptable cats and dogs!

Right now, our greatest need is for:
🐱Cattery Cleaners
🐶 Dog & Cat Socializers
🐾Foster Families

There are a variety of other volunteer opportunities throughout our organization, including our thrift shop, low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and administrative team. If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to make a difference for the animals in our community, we’d love to hear from you!❤️
