One week ago, we finally cut the ribbon on our new facility: The Joe and Julie Julson Shelter. After more than 15 years of planning and hard work, there are no words to convey just how special this moment was for all of us at Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society. While the new shelter is dedicated first and foremost to our founder, it’s also dedicated to every board member, employee, volunteer, adopter, donor, and contractor who helped us turn this dream into a reality. We’re so grateful to be a part of this community, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you as we officially kick off our grand opening weekend TOMORROW MORNING!🎉

We’ll be open Saturday and Sunday from 11:00-3:00 for meet and greets, adoptions, and building tours.
Our goal for this event is to clear our kennels and find forever homes for all of our resident dogs and cats. Our general contractor, Worx Construction Company, has even generously offered to sponsor all adoption fees through the end of the weekend!

PLEASE NOTE:

🐾We recommend that you review our adoption requirements and adoptable pets online before visiting the shelter, as completed adoption applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. All adopters must have valid ID and proof of home ownership or landlord pet verification.

🐕 If you’re bringing a dog from home to meet one of our adoptable dogs, please keep your dog in your vehicle when you arrive and alert a member of our team so we can facilitate a meet and greet.

🐈 if you’re planning to adopt a cat, please bring a cat carrier with you.

🚫 We are currently closed for intake and will not be able to accommodate surrender requests during our grand opening event. We plan to resume intakes by appointment after clearing our kennels!

Mushu is a big goofy guy, Neutered male, 2-3yrs old, Rottweiler/Husky Mix.

Adoption fee is $100, until end of day on Sunday August 23rd.

Come visit him at our Grand Opening Saturday August 22nd and Sunday August 23rd from 11am to 3pm.

‼️ADOPT MAX‼️

Max has been with us since 2024 and is one of our shelter’s longest-term residents. This very good, very big boy is a five-year old German Shephard/Husky mix weighing in at an impressive 98 pounds! Our shelter team describes Max as a gentle giant; he’s laid-back, knows all the basic commands, loves to play with toys in short bursts, and enjoys going on daily walks with his human friends. While Max is great with children, he needs to be the only pet in his new home.

In March of 2025, Max attended our new shelter’s ground-breaking ceremony and kindly offered to dig the first hole himself. Our team loves Max very much but we’re hoping he won’t still be at the shelter for our grand opening weekend; this new chapter for us should be a new chapter for him too. If you think you might be the right person for Max, please reach out to us to schedule a meet and greet! You can also share this post to help us find Max’s forever home.

With just 20 days left until our grand opening, we’re asking for your help to achieve a really important goal: clearing our shelter!

This picture was taken the day we started moving our dogs into their new kennels; it was such an exciting, emotional, and long-awaited moment for our team. While these kennels are modern, spacious, and much more comfortable than the kennels in our old building, we know our dogs would be much happier living in loving homes.

Our goal is to find homes for as many of our dogs as possible by the end of our grand opening event. We want to see our kennels look like this picture again…EMPTY!

Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society is a no-kill shelter. We do not euthanize animals due to space limitations or long lengths of stay. Without adopters and fosters, we get stuck operating at capacity and are unable to take in other animals that need help. We love every single animal that enters our shelter and will always care for them until they’re adopted, no matter how long it takes.

Over the next couple weeks, we will be highlighting our long-term resident dogs that we especially want to find homes for, like:

The grand opening of our new shelter is just a few weeks away, and we’re looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team and help care for our adoptable cats and dogs!

As we put the finishing touches on our new shelter, a major chapter of our journey is coming to a close. August 2nd is the final day to make a gift of $1,000 or more and have your name permanently recognized on our Capital Campaign Donor Wall.

This donor wall is intended as a lasting tribute to all the incredible people who made this dream a reality. From all of us at Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society, thank you for helping us build a brighter future for not only our organization, but for all the pets and pet families in our community.

After years of dreaming, planning, fundraising, and building, we’re getting SO close to opening the doors to our new shelter!

This space was built for our entire community, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Our grand opening weekend is August 22-23. We’ll have our doors open to the public for tours of the new space from 11:00a.m.-3:00p.m. both days. We hope to see you there!

It has been wonderful to watch Piper and Chickpea come out of their shells.

They are the best of friends and both need a confident dog buddy or maybe someone who would want to adopt both girls!
