At ACCSR, we’ve been privately owned since 2002. One owner. One hospital. One team accountable to our clients, patients, staff, and community. ❤️
Lately there’s been a lot of discussion online about corporations buying veterinary practices. And yes… it’s happening rapidly. In fact, in McKinney, corporate ownership now makes up the majority of general practices.
That does NOT automatically mean corporate clinics are “bad.” There are many excellent veterinarians and support teams working inside those hospitals who care deeply about pets and their people. Most veterinarians, regardless of ownership structure, entered this profession because they genuinely want to help animals.
But ownership structure can affect the experience clients have.
Corporate systems may bring:
• frequent doctor turnover
• rotating relief veterinarians
• pressure for efficiency and production
• less appointment time for education and discussion
• less local decision-making
One of the greatest strengths of a privately owned hospital is consistency and accountability.
At ACCSR:
• your feedback goes directly to the owner
• your veterinarian helps shape hospital standards and protocols
• we prioritize relationship-based medicine
• we intentionally schedule longer appointments to allow time for questions, education, and individualized care
• our decisions are made here… not in another state or a corporate boardroom
Veterinary medicine has changed dramatically over the last 10–15 years. Costs have risen everywhere. Staffing, medications, equipment, diagnostics, rent, insurance, technology, and continuing education. That affects private and corporate hospitals alike.
So before assuming “poor outcome = poor care,” please remember something important:
Medicine is imperfect.
Pets age.
Cancer happens.
Kidneys fail.
Hearts fail.
And sometimes even excellent medicine cannot change the final outcome.
Compassionate veterinary care is not measured only by whether we can cure disease. Often it’s measured by honesty, education, comfort, advocacy, communication, and helping families navigate incredibly difficult decisions with love and dignity.
We are grateful every day that so many families continue choosing locally owned veterinary medicine. Thank you for trusting us with your pets, your worries, your celebrations, and your heartbreaks.

We spend big bucks on our pets, and those dollars are drawing private equity firms to jump into veterinary services.
