This is a hard post for me. With a lot of debating back and forth and hand wringing, lots of emotions, my family made the decision to place Minka and Godiva in to a loving home in Maine with a couple I’ve gotten to know over the past two years. We retired them both from breeding and spayed them.
Running a breeding program the right way is hard! It’s 24/7, nonstop days off, no vacations, holidays. It’s all about the dogs and they come first. It’s a huge commitment. There is just no realistic way I can keep every dog I retire from breeding and still continue to move my program forward through the generations. The whole thing that keeps making it better is holding back the best puppies you produce to be added to your program so that future generations are even better. That’s if you want to improve the breed and I have a responsibility to do that.
Minka in particular needed a lot more one on one attention and my attention is spread thin. I stay very busy caring for my dogs, new litters and puppy families.
Minka and Godiva get to be the sole focus and the only pets. They plan trips around them so they can go with. They get to get out and see the world. They especially love the go cart rides and love seeing the wildlife In Maine.
