Thank you to everyone who came out to our Summer Fun Show to help us fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital! We had many events such as Ride-A-Buck, Egg and Spoon, Showmanship Challenge, and of course, Musical Stalls. It was so fun to see everyone there!

Onto the next event this week, Monarch Horse Show!

CH James L
Charlotte Chesrow, up

One of the most charismatic three-gaited horses of the early 1960's pictured here in 1962 where amongst other shows he was a winner at South Shore Country Club, Crown Point Indiana's Lake County Fair, Illinois State Fair and the Chicago International. Their reign began after Charlotte's father, Frank, purchased the horse in late 1961 from the William Groves Family on Chicago's north shore.

In late 1965, he was sold to Dana Lyon.

He was a wonderful horse for all. Bred by and named for James L Younghusband, the owner of Valley View Farm in Barrington IL, a well known perfume manufacturer.

Sired by Genius Bourbon King and out of the mare Loghaven's Spanish Moss, by S**c n Spanish.

A past Minton Memorial Juvenile Three-Gaited winner for a very young and pig-tailed Cathy Groves (Nelson) in 1959 and reserve in the same class in 1960.

He spent his last years on the west coast with Cynthia Wood.

He has been featured with all of the above many times here on this page.

Woodwind Farm will be taking a wonderful group of horses and riders to the IASPHA Summer Horse Show the weekend of July 24th–26th. We’re so lucky to have this show so close to home—just a quick 20‑minute drive from WWF to Beyond Stables in Crystal Lake, IL. The Summer Show always brings big classes, great energy, and is truly a fun one to watch.

Before the Saturday evening performance, our very own Woodwind Farm rider, Deidre, will be hosting a FREE ASHBA Youth Event open to all kids—riders, siblings, and friends! We’d love to have everyone join in.

Activities will include:
* Bracelet Making
* Lemonade Bar - with mix and match flavors
* Pizza
* Guest Speaker Brooke Jacobs
* Junior Judging - during the evening performance

Stop by the stands near the outdoor arena anytime after 4:30 to join the fun! Brooke Jacobs will speak to the group around 5pm about how she became a licensed Judge and what she looks for in each class when she is judging a horse show. Kids can then use what they learned to participate in Junior Judging during the show. Awards will be given for 1st through 6th place based on how closely their cards match the official judges’ results.
We hope you can make it for this fun event!
