🐾 Meet Farnsworth! 🐾
Some dogs are graceful. Some dogs are coordinated. And then there's Farnsworth. 😆
This gentle giant is a huge puppy with growing limbs that seem to have arrived before the instruction manual. At around 70 pounds, Farnsworth is all legs, all love, and still trying to figure out exactly how those long limbs are supposed to work together. Watching him navigate the world is equal parts adorable and entertaining!

Despite his size, Farnsworth is a sweetheart through and through. He's never met a stranger and believes everyone he encounters is a potential best friend. He is affectionate, gentle, and always ready to share his love with anyone willing to give him a chance.

Because he's still very much a puppy in a giant dog's body, Farnsworth will need an adopter committed to helping him learn his manners and continue his training. The effort will be well worth it, because this goofy boy has all the makings of an incredible companion.
If you're looking for 70 pounds of loyalty, laughs, and unconditional love, come meet Farnsworth today! ❤️

💙 THANK YOU, HENRY COUNTY! 💙
We wanted to take a moment to say something that doesn't get said nearly enough...

Thank you.

Every single day, we have adopters walk through our doors and tell us they came to meet an animal they saw on our social media pages. Every like, comment, share, and tag helps another homeless animal get seen. That visibility is changing lives.
Because of your support, we have seen a tremendous increase in adoptions at Henry County Animal Care and Control. Animals that may have otherwise been overlooked are finding loving homes because someone shared their story.
Our online community is truly incredible. Not only do you help spread the word, but many of you also jump in to answer questions from other followers, offer encouragement, and celebrate every adoption, rescue, and happy ending alongside us.
Some days in animal welfare are long. Some days are hard. Most days are very busy. But knowing we have a community that stands behind us makes all the difference.
It truly takes a village to save lives, and we are proud to say we have the best village around.
From all of us at Henry County Animal Care and Control, thank you for helping us give these animals a voice. We couldn't do it without you. 🐾❤️

☀️🌡️ Henry County, the heat is here! As temperatures continue to climb, please remember that heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency for dogs and cats.
Signs of heat stroke can include:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Bright red gums
🐾 Weakness or collapse
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 Disorientation or unresponsiveness
While any pet can suffer from heat stroke, brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds such as French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boston Terriers are at EXTREME risk due to their limited ability to cool themselves through panting.
🌡️ Remember:
• Above 80°F – Use caution, especially during exercise.
• Above 90°F – Dangerous conditions can develop quickly.
• Above 100°F – Heat stroke can occur in minutes, particularly for high-risk pets.
🐱 A special reminder for our community cat caretakers and trappers: Cats confined in traps are at an even greater risk of overheating. If you are trapping, traps must be continuously monitored and kept in shaded, well-ventilated areas. If you cannot directly monitor the trap, please close it and try again another day. A trapped cat can quickly become a medical emergency in our Georgia heat.
Together, we can prevent needless suffering and keep Henry County animals safe this summer. Thank you for doing your part! ❤️🐾

Look what Athena's (now Mira) new mom has to say about how well she is adjusting outside of the shelter! 💕🐶🐾🦴

"She has settled into our home so naturally that it’s hard to remember she hasn’t always been here. Mira is incredibly sweet, gentle, and affectionate. She loves her squeaky toys and her lick mat, and she has become quite the cuddle bug. Her favorite place to sleep is in my king-size bed with her head on a pillow like a person. She also snores like a grown man, which makes me laugh every single day.

Mira is very well trained and continues to impress me. She knows sit, down, stay, and paw, and she will patiently wait for me to release her before eating her meals. She’s also crate trained and does wonderfully in her crate.

One of my favorite things about her is how much she loves people. Every morning she enjoys going for car rides, and when the windows are down, she makes sure to greet everyone she sees. She has only barked once since I brought her home. She’s such a calm, happy girl who would much rather make friends than make noise.

She absolutely adores cuddling with my godbabies and is so gentle with them. When she wants attention, she can be very insistent about getting her lovins, usually by leaning all of her body weight into me during snuggle time. It’s impossible not to give in because she’s just so sweet.

Thank you for entrusting me with such a wonderful dog. I can honestly say that Mira has brought so much happiness, laughter, and comfort into my life. She is loved beyond measure, spoiled appropriately, and very much at home.

Thank you again for everything you did for her before she found her way to me."

🍭 Meet Sugar! 🍭
Not everything in life is gumdrops and roses... but sweet Sugar sure is!
At 3 years old and around 40 pounds, Sugar is the perfect petite-sized pup packed full of sweetness. She's gentle, affectionate, and has a heart as big as her smile.

One thing that stood out when Sugar arrived at our shelter was that she was already spayed. At some point in her life, someone cared enough to make sure she received veterinary care and was loved. Sadly, Sugar now finds herself as one of our longest residents, still waiting for someone to choose her again.

While she's been waiting, Sugar has become an important member of our team. In fact, she's our official dog tester! This social butterfly gets along with everyone and helps us evaluate other dogs to see if they're dog-friendly. Day after day, Sugar happily greets new canine friends and helps other dogs put their best paw forward.

She's kind. She's patient. She's friendly. And she's more than ready for a family of her own.
If you're looking for a dog that's as sweet as her name, come meet Sugar today. We think you'll fall in love just as quickly as we did. ❤️

✨ Meet Hope! ✨
Some dogs wear their story on the outside. Hope carries hers quietly in her heart.
At just around 5 months old, Hope is one of the puppies rescued from our recent 37-dog hoarding case. The world hasn't always been kind to her, but every day she shows us what resilience looks like. Little by little, she's coming out of her shell, learning that gentle hands bring comfort, kind voices bring safety, and people can be trusted.
And once you meet her, you'll notice something extra special—her absolutely adorable heart-shaped nose. ❤️ It's as if she was born carrying a reminder of the love she's always deserved.
Hope is a sweet, gentle girl with her whole life ahead of her. What she needs now is a family willing to be patient, kind, and show her what it means to belong.
Please come meet Hope today. Help turn her story from one of survival into one of love, security, and happiness.
After everything she's been through, we think it's finally Hope's turn. 🐾

ADOPTED

🎩 Presenting Dax: A Distinguished Gentleman in Search of His Estate 🎩
Allow us to introduce Dax, a proper gentleman of approximately 1–3 years of age, weighing a respectable 65 pounds and carrying himself with all the quiet dignity one might expect from an English lord.

Dax arrived alongside his sister, who has since departed for her happily-ever-after. Yet Dax remains, patiently awaiting a carriage of his own. One of our longest-staying residents, he greets each day with the same calm composure and gentle nature that has won over everyone who has had the pleasure of making his acquaintance.

We suspect that at some point in his life, Dax was deeply cherished. Someone took the time to ensure both he and his sister were spayed/neutered a sign that they were once cared for and valued. Though life has led him here, he has never lost his manners.

Unlike some of the more boisterous residents of the kennel, Dax is a quiet soul. He is nonreactive around other dogs, polite in his interactions, and possesses the sort of steady temperament that makes for an exceptional companion. He asks for little more than a comfortable place to rest, a kind hand to offer affection, and a family to call his own.

If your manor has been lacking a loyal gentleman to accompany you on walks through the countryside, or perhaps simply from the sofa to the kitchen, Dax may be precisely the fellow you've been seeking.
Come meet Dax today. Every distinguished gentleman deserves a place to hang his hat. 🐾🏡❤️

Whew... what a week, Henry County!
First, the good news: last month we hit our adoption goal AGAIN with 54 adoptions! 🎉 Even more exciting, we're only one week into the new month and 16 animals have already found loving homes and 29 animals were sent to rescue. Thank you to every adopter, rescue partner, volunteer, and supporter who helped make that happen.

But while animals are leaving, many more are arriving. In just the first 5 days of this month, we have taken in 33 dogs and 33 cats — a total of 66 animals. Those are big numbers, and we feel the weight of them every single day. Every kennel cleaned, every medical treatment given, every frightened animal comforted, and every adoption facilitated takes a team effort.

Still, we remain hopeful.
Why? Because we've seen what this community can do. We've watched families choose adoption. We've watched rescue partners step up when we needed them most.
The challenges are real, but so is the compassion in Henry County.

If you've been considering adopting, now is the perfect time. If adoption isn't possible, sharing our posts, fostering with a local rescue, or ensuring your own pets are spayed and neutered makes a tremendous difference.

Together, we can turn intake numbers into adoption stories.
Thank you for continuing to show up for the
animals who need us most. ❤️🐾

🐾 Let’s Talk About Stray Dogs & Rabies 🐾
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that attacks the brain and nervous system of mammals, including humans. Once clinical signs appear, rabies is nearly always fatal, but it is entirely preventable through vaccination.

Rabies is spread through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through bites. Worldwide, the vast majority of human rabies cases occur as a result of dog bites, making responsible pet ownership and stray animal control critical public health measures.

Studies have consistently shown a connection between large stray dog populations and increased rabies risk. Unvaccinated, free-roaming dogs are more likely to come into contact with wildlife reservoirs of rabies and can spread the disease to other animals and people. As stray populations increase, so does the challenge of ensuring adequate vaccination coverage and public safety.

The most effective tools for preventing rabies are:
✔️ Regular rabies vaccination for all pets
✔️ Spaying and neutering to prevent unwanted litters and reduce stray populations
This is one of the many reasons Henry County Animal Care and Control does not deny stray dog intake, even when we are full. Our community has entrusted us with protecting both animal welfare and public safety, and we take that responsibility seriously. Stray dogs are not simply an animal welfare issue—they are also a public health concern.
Please ensure your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations.

Meet Abyss. 🖤
The depth of this sweet girl's soul is truly endless.
Abyss arrived at our shelter alongside what we believe may be her sister. One thing was immediately clear, her mammary glands were full of milk, but there were no puppies in sight. Sadly, this is a story we see far too often. Once puppies are sold or given away, the mother is sometimes left behind.

Despite whatever she's been through, Abyss remains incredibly gentle. The shelter is a scary place for her. She isn't the dog bouncing off the kennel door or demanding attention. Instead, she quietly seeks comfort, wanting nothing more than to calmly crawl into your lap and hide from the world for a little.
If you're looking for a loyal companion with a gentle spirit, please come meet Abyss today. Sometimes the quietest souls have the most love to give. ❤️
