I thought we would try something new for Trooper today, riding bridle-less! With just over 3 weeks until the Meeker Mustang Makeover, I wanted to see how it would go, and he was so good. We were able to successfully walk, trot and lope both directions after putting the phone down and riding two handed.

𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 – 𝟑𝐲𝐫 𝐁𝐋𝐌 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 – 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡, 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥, 𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰!

Meet Trooper! A sweet 3-year-old blood bay BLM mustang gelding from the Twin Peaks, CA HMA. He currently stands 13.3 hands but should mature to about 14.3-15H. Trooper is curious and kind, loves our kids, and is not bothered by dogs, farm equipment, or ATVs. He is an absolute gentleman on the ground and great to handle. He stands tied quietly, loads in the trailer, stands for saddling and bathing, and is good for the farrier. He’s a forward-moving horse that likes to cover ground. We’ve used Trooper on the ranch moving cattle in the mountains, and he’s also a great trail horse! Trooper is comfortable trailering to new places. He’s competed in gymkhanas, versatility ranch horse, English and western shows. Trooper is current on vaccines, Coggins, dental, and farrier work. He is ready to come home with you and be your next partner!

Trooper will be offered at the Meeker Mustang Makeover in Meeker, CO on September 18-19th, 2026. He will compete in the mustang-only horse show, obstacle course, and cow work on Friday the 18th, perform in the freestyle on Saturday the 19th, and then be offered for adoption later that day. The entire event will be live-streamed on Facebook. Interested buyers can register and bid online or in person at the event (bidders must be pre-approved by the BLM). We’ve been handling Trooper’s feet plenty, but last week was his first trim. He acted like he’d had this done a thousand times, even with the kids and chickens running around. So proud of this guy and how he handles new things!

We are so proud of Trooper and how he performed at the Routt County Open Horse Show this past weekend. After two long days of competing in the heat, we brought home the Reserve Champion Mustang buckle. We showed in 13 total classes, ranging from Ranch Horse Versatility to English and Showmanship to Western. Trooper gave me all he had and I couldn’t be happier with him. We were only two points behind fellow Meeker Mustang Makeover trainer, Jesse Quillian, with Frankie, who took home the Champion buckle. The competition was great, the camaraderie between riders was amazing, and we are so pleased with the outcome. A huge thank you to the committee for putting the show on, as well as the 4M Ranch for sponsoring the buckles.
