MVHR's 12th Annual Hay Day Open House Saturday, September 19th!

This Fun & Free Day at the ranch includes grooming & Leading horses, ranch hand relays, stick horse races, family fun, Games & Crafts and of course meeting the rescue herd. Enjoy Live Music, Drinks and food trucks on site! Join us from 1-4pm at the rescue ranch in McCoy!

Adopted: Lucky!

All adoptions are a win, but when a horse as special as Lucky, who has been waiting patiently for over two years, finds their forever home we celebrate a little bit extra. She is a very wise horse, who seemed to have lived many lives before arriving at MVHR. She was fearfull and uncertain when arriving in March 2024 but quickly knew she was in the safe place she so desperately needed.

She met several potential adopters over her time at MVHR, but never chose her person until this Summer. Karen, who adopted Moon from MVHR in late 2024 was looking for a friend for him. Lucky must have known because she not only loved Karen right away, she was great friends with Moon before. Our hearts warm to see this picture of these two finding their way to each other and the most amazing home to spend forever at.

Welcome Woodrow!

Woodrow is a 22 year old grey gelding who came to us last week when his loving owner was faced with a serious health diagnosis. He quickly needed a safe place as she needed to start immediate treatment.

This sweet gentleman was very loved and we are honored to help him find his next adventure. He has settled in well and we look forward to getting to know him.

Yesterday late afternoon a lighting storm caused a small spot fire just south of the rescue ranch on BLM land. Here is some video of the amazing firefighting that happened quickly! The fire is out and everyone is safe, there was no danger to the horses.

We, and several neighbors called it in at 5pm and within an hour a helicopter was making drops, taking water directly for the Colorado River. Thankfully the storm also came with a lot of rain, likely avoiding this spot fire getting bigger. We are so grateful for the amazing first responders, thank you Rock Creek Volunteer Fire department and BLM management and its fire fighting teams for the quick response and action. They drove atvs deep into the night, into this hard to reach area to ensure it was out. This was called the “Horse Incident” 🐴.

Our area is still in stage 2 fire restrictions, it remains super dry and we are not even close to the end of fire season.

Welcome Gus & Seneca

These two gorgeous boys also arrived into quarantine last week. They came together to MVHR when their loving owner could no longer keep caring for them due to life changing circumstances.

Gus is a 14 year old gentle bay draft cross who most recently was used for trail riding and light dressage.

Seneca is a 5 year old dark bay thoroughbred gelding who has been started under saddle but needs more miles. He has a wonderful groundwork basis.

Both have settled in well and are also housed in Robin’s Nest training stalls. We look forward to getting to know them! Check back here for updates on Gus & Seneca!

Welcome Dandy & Betty…

…we are so glad you made it to MVHR! Both girls have been neglected for quite sometime, being underweight, with overall body discomforts and Dandy had a hind leg injury a few years ago that was never cared for. These sweet mares are now safe and will get all the love they deserve.

The training barn has been turned into extra quarantine space, housing 5 new intakes as quarantine and the Horse ICU are full too! We are glad we could say yes too all these immediate care intakes, and that is all thanks to you! our supporters, donors and volunteers! Thank you! thank you!
