Humane Society of McCormick County No-kill rescue for homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County. Adopt into loving homes. All-volunteer We offer low-cost spay to any cat or dog in the County.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs and find them loving homes. We are 100% funded by donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a county-run shelter. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Meet Coal! 🐾 This handsome 7-month-old gray kitty was a little shy when he first arrived at the rescue. But with a bit of patience and love, he has blossomed—now, he can’t get enough of his favorite ear rubs! 😍

Found Dogs: Clarks Hill (McCormick County, SC)
These two dogs showed up on Hwy 28 in Clarks Hill. Collars but no tags. Will check them for a microchip. Please call 803-634-2078 to claim. These dogs are known to roam so please tell your friends from neighboring areas.

The volunteers had fun dressing Oreo in a Halloween costume. She was a very good sport! She wasn’t sure what to make of the pumpkins. 🎃

Oreo loves people, enjoys playing with toys, and is always happy to get out for a walk. She also loves treats and would enjoy a laid-back canine companion to keep her company.
Oreo is 16 months old and weighs about 40 pounds. Oreo is an active girl and she would need a fenced in yard. She is looking for a loving, inside home where she can enjoy walks, playtime, cuddles, and being someone's special girl.

Try this at home with your dog....
"Sniffaris": Long, loose-leash walks where the dog chooses the path and is allowed to sniff every spot for as long as they want.

Scatter Feeding: Instead of feeding from a bowl, toss their meal into grass, a snuffle mat, or a rolled-up towel to force them to use their nose.

Shaping & Novelty: Introduce new scents (like safe herbs or deer musk) or novel objects to explore in a safe space to spark healthy curiosity.

👑 Princess Diana had a royal day out! 👑

Our beautiful girl Princess Diana was feeling a little stressed in her shelter kennel, so one of our amazing volunteers gave her the ultimate gift: a quiet afternoon at home to unwind! 🏡❤️

Here is the recap from her visit:

“She did great in the house! She was fine with my husband and absolutely loved having a quiet afternoon to relax. No accidents, and she doesn't beg if you redirect her. Princess Di loves to snuggle, play with toys, and chew on bones.”

🦈 THIS LITTLE SHARK IS ALL HEART! 🦈

Meet Nugget, our handsome gray-and-white tuxedo boy with gorgeous golden eyes and an ocean of love to give! Rescued at just 5 weeks old in August 2025, Nugget watched all his siblings find their forever families while he was still a tiny kitten. Somehow, sweet Nugget was overlooked—and he’s been waiting ever since. Honestly, we can’t understand why, since he’s one of our shelter favorites! ❤️

Nugget Is Looking for His Someone Special! 🦈 His favorite kind of catch? Your heart!

This affectionate boy runs to greet his humans, loves pets and attention, and may even give you a few hugs and kisses. He’s a playful sweetheart who’s hooked on people, cuddles, and laser-chasing! When playtime is over, you might find him curled up in your lap or snuggled beside you.

Born 7/17/2025, Nugget is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He’d make a wonderful family cat or loving companion and is ready for his forever indoor home.

🎃 His Halloween costume may be a little snug, but his heart has plenty of room for YOU!

⚓️ Local Pirate Seeks Couch for Napping ⚓️

While our volunteers love getting into the festive spirit, Rosalie is focused on a bigger prize. She’s charting a course straight toward a forever family! ❤️

At 50 lbs and turning 7 this month, this beautiful Boxer mix is already a great housemate. She is housetrained and has polite table manners. When she isn't patrolling the backyard for bugs and lizards, she prefers to spend her days sunbathing or riding sh***un in a golf cart.

Rosalie is incredibly friendly with people, offering immediate kisses to anyone she meets. To thrive, she needs to be the only dog in the home -she wants to be your absolute treasure! She is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccines.
