🚨 SCREWWORM ALERT 🚨
Screwworm is a serious parasite that can affect dogs, cats, livestock, wildlife, and other warm-blooded animals. Unlike common maggots that feed on dead tissue, screwworm larvae feed on living tissue and can cause severe, painful wounds.
What you can do:
✔ Keep pets on year-round parasite prevention such as Bravecto®, NexGard®, or Credelio Quattro®
✔ Check pets and livestock daily for wounds, cuts, or skin irritation
✔ Clean and monitor any wounds promptly
✔ Watch for excessive licking, swelling, drainage, foul odor, or visible maggots
✔ Seek veterinary care immediately if you suspect screwworm
⚠ Watch for:
• Open wounds that won’t heal
• Excessive licking or chewing at a wound
• Foul odor from a wound
• Swelling or drainage
• Visible maggots
• Sudden discomfort or lethargy
❗ If you see maggots, do not wait. Contact your veterinarian immediately. Early treatment is critical.
While no product can guarantee prevention of screwworm, keeping your pets on routine parasite prevention, promptly treating wounds, and performing regular checks can help reduce risk and allow for early detection.
