This is my youngest daughter, Oaklea. ❤️

She started Pre-K last week, and since she only had half days, she got to spend the afternoons hanging out with Mom at the shop.

Oaklea is my little clone in almost every way — and apparently that includes being born with a love for every animal she meets. 😂

I was trying to get a nice picture of this sweet girl after her groom, but Oaklea had other plans. Every time I went to take one, she was right there beside her. So eventually I gave up and figured they could just have their photo shoot together. 😂

I can't even be mad about it, because these ended up being some of my favorite pictures.

She loves watching me work, asking questions, talking to the dogs, and being involved in whatever I'm doing. And there's something pretty special about looking over and seeing a little girl who reminds me so much of myself growing up — always happiest when there was an animal nearby.

Maybe I've got a future groomer on my hands. ❤️🐾

For now, though, she's apparently my unpaid photo assistant... who refuses to stay behind the camera. 😂

People see the before and after pictures.
They see the fluffy haircuts, the bows, the bandanas, and the finished groom.
What they don't see are the moments in between.
They don't see me sitting on the floor because that's where a nervous dog feels safest.
They don't see the extra time spent earning enough trust to clip one nail... then another... then another.
They don't see the quiet conversations, the breaks we take, or the moments I choose to slow down because a dog is telling me they need a little more patience.
I've learned something over the years...
Dogs don't remember that their nails are shorter.
They don't remember how even their haircut was.
But they do remember how they felt.
Did they feel rushed?
Did they feel cornered?
Or did they feel safe?
Don't get me wrong—grooming isn't always a dog's favorite thing. Sometimes we still have to work through things they don't enjoy. But there's a big difference between simply getting the job done and taking the time to build trust along the way.
Because my goal isn't just to send home a clean, beautiful dog.
My goal is for each visit to be a little easier than the last.
For fearful dogs to gain confidence.
For anxious owners to finally relax.
For tails to wag a little sooner when they walk through my door.
A beautiful groom lasts a few weeks.
A dog's trust can last a lifetime.
