Okay Roma… when did you grow up?! 😭🤎

I swear I blinked and this little tomato baby turned into THIS handsome boy.

Roma is officially 11 weeks old, and this is honestly one of my favorite puppy stages. His personality is really coming out, he's learning every day, and you can finally start seeing the beautiful little dog he's growing into. 🤍

And Roma is just GOOD.

He's sweet, happy, playful and has the most gorgeous rich red coloring with those icy blue eyes that stop you in your tracks. 😍 He's also our unique little minimal merle boy. At first glance you might think red tri, but look a little closer and you'll find those subtle merle markings.

Maui 🤎

This one is a little bittersweet to post, because Maui has been part of our family and program for several years, and he truly is just the best, goofiest boy 🥹

Maui is 4 years old and has the kind of personality that makes you laugh without even trying. He's happy, silly, affectionate, and just an all around GOOD boy. And somehow, underneath all that goofiness, he's also ridiculously handsome 😍

He's a gorgeous red merle with those striking blue eyes, a beautiful natural tail, and the sweetest expression.

Apparently Bebe has decided her Wednesday schedule is completely booked ☀️😂

This girl cracks me up. She is equal parts sweet, silly, and completely unbothered 🤍

🤍 LOOK WHAT GOD HAS DONE 🤍

Sometimes you look around at your life and realize there really aren't adequate words for all the ways God has been good.

There have been prayers He answered differently than we expected. Doors He closed that we didn't understand. Doors He opened that we never could have opened ourselves. Seasons He carried us through, things He restored, and blessings we certainly didn't earn.

Through every high and every low, one thing has remained constant:

God has been faithful.

So when it came time to name these babies, I couldn't think of anything more fitting.

🩵 Meet Bebe 🩵

I feel like Bebe has been keeping a secret from Facebook because WHY have we not properly introduced this girl?! 😂

Bebe is a teeny little thing with approximately 47 different facial expressions, two ice blue eyes that don't miss a thing, and enough personality packed into 12 pounds to run the entire household.

She is a Toy Australian Shepherd, right around 12" and 12 lbs, and turned a year old in May. So if the tiny puppy stage isn't your thing but you still want a young dog with plenty of life, play and personality 👀 this girl.

And can we please discuss those pictures?! One ear up. One ear sideways. Tongue out. Blue eyes staring directly into your soul. 😂 She is absolutely incapable of taking herself seriously.

It's hard to believe these are the only two left ❤️

Big Beef and Roma have been the best little helpers around here while we've watched all of their siblings head off to their new families. They've gotten extra playtime, extra snuggles, and maybe just a little extra spoiled.

But I think they're more than ready for families of their own.

This weekend, I'd love nothing more than to pack their puppy bags, give them one last squeeze, and watch them begin the next chapter of their lives.

Until then, they'll keep us laughing, following us around the farm, and reminding us why it's always so bittersweet when the last puppies are still here.

Since we've had so many new friends join Angel's Aussies over the last couple of days, I figured it was only fair to introduce one of our handsome boys.

🐾 Why don't we dock tails at Angel's Aussies?

This is probably one of the questions I get asked the most.

The short answer? Because the goals of our program have changed.

When I first started breeding, I docked tails because that's what was traditionally done with Australian Shepherds. It was the breed standard, and it's what most people expected.

Over the years, though, our program evolved.

Today, nearly every puppy we raise is going to a companion home. They're becoming hiking buddies, couch snugglers, children's best friends, therapy prospects, and beloved members of the family. Not working stock dogs.

That led me to ask myself a simple question:
"Am I doing this because it's best for my puppies and families... or because it's always been done this way?"

So I started paying attention.

I watched puppies with natural tails interact with their littermates. I watched them communicate with older dogs. I watched them grow into adults.

One thing I noticed was how much information is communicated through a tail. Excitement. Curiosity. Nervousness. Confidence. Submission. Playfulness. Dogs use their tails constantly to communicate with both people and other dogs.

Personally, I also felt like many of our puppies seemed more expressive and more confident with their tails intact. Is there a large scientific study proving that? No. That's simply been my own observation after raising many litters.

Of course, there are wonderful dogs with docked tails. Keeping tails doesn't automatically make a dog better, healthier, or smarter, and I would never claim otherwise.

This isn't about saying one choice is right and the other is wrong.

It's simply the direction I chose for my breeding program because it aligns with what I value and the homes my puppies are going to.

I know natural tails aren't everyone's preference, and that's okay. Breeding is full of thoughtful people who make different decisions for different reasons.

For us, watching those fluffy tails wag when families come to pick up their puppy makes the decision worth it every single time. ❤️
